The Southern Scuffle is always a meat-grinder, but this certainly was not Rutgers’ best outing. The Scarlet Knights had five individual place-winners, led by 133-lb champion, Sammy Alvarez. The five medalists helped give Rutgers a 7th place team finish.
Wrestlers such as Nic Aguilar and Joe Grello did not have the tournaments that they had hoped for. Jordan Pagano, who has been one of best wrestlers this season, struggled in a fairly deep weight class.
