Antonio Shelton to Penn State

Fans can blow all they want, RU needs to get to a point where a Shelton (good/bad or just OK) picks RU. Where the kicker doesn't flip and where the south jersey kids don't end up in crappy valley. It may be a while for a head to head with OSU and UM, but we need to be going head to head with PSU if we are gong to be competitive in our BIG division.

That's not going to happen without a massive influx of money. I understand what you are saying with this year Ohio state and Michigan being the class of big 10 recruiting this year, however teams like PSU, Mich St, Nebraska, Iowa, etc have facilities that blow RU's away. Basically until RU donor levels go up and every game sells out, not much will change. there's only so much a coach can do

PSU already is trending down and lets hope they keep the car salesmen too long accelerating our progress with the young hungry staff doing it the right way....no BS...just being real with hard work...I'm pretty sure if PSU don't see this coming we'll be fine..
Looks like Rutgers is the one trending down. Rutgers class is now ranked #78 while Penn State class has moved up to #19.

Nothing RU fans are worried about.
We knew even as bad as Flood's recruiting was, Ash would have a hard time leeping some already committed and not be able to get the recruits to move up in the recruiting ranmkings.
As long as Ash proves to be a good gameday HC his next recruiting class should be a pretty good one.

Penn St can be proud that their name gets recruits interested in becoming Nits, but ashamed of how their HC can't make use of the talent his recruiting brings in.
Franklin is equal to the ex RU FB HC in terms of the way he uses his roster, RU fans are glad to have a new HC and like seeing Penn St stuck with a mediocre HC.
Even with Flood being the HC, RU had a chance to beat Penn St because of. Franklin

Enjoy your recruiting edge Nut, it might not work out as well as it should because of PSU's underachieving HC.
If BOB was still the Nit HC recruiting would be much better and the Nittany Lions would be a national power.
But he did say the Cult of Joe made him disgusted and he left.

So like....you guys do understand that you still get the pleasure of watching Saquon curbstomp you for the next two years, right? And this past year is the worst our o-line is ever going to look. I wouldn't be so cocky.

Nope we never trended up....sorry but you're slipping...we still haven't shown anything to lose post GS..

Sorry but you guys need to wake up....after all if he didn't commit to us you guys thought he was beneath you...actually your beneath him..

you actually got likes her by recruiting off you own board....go back...after all were no threat to the formerly great PSU...or are you concerned..

Say, Say, Hurt, Hurt, Always, Always

The prospects for your oline are so terrific that your oline coach just quit.

I know that we offered, but this is a sign of how downhill PSU's recruiting has gone over the past few months. Shelton only had a couple of other P5 offers (one was RU), and, frankly, his size/speed measurables are not impressive. Don't know how the RU coaches rated him, but he was 3rd on my wish list behind Turner and Johnson.

BTW, other than the "kicker switch", this is Franklin's first new commit for the last 5 or so months.

PSU's oline already sucks, their dline is now going to take a plunge with kids like this needing to replace studs like Austin Johnson and Zettel. Franklin can get all the skill personal he wants, he isn't going to win while losing the LOS game after game.
Stars doesn't matter, do u remember the latest 2 star that decommitted from RU and signed with State Penn. (JORDAN HILL), who is playing for the Seahawks now. Get them in and coach them up.

That only goes so far though, I think we can all agree that dantonio is a phenomenal 'coach em' up type' and yes a lot of underrated guys turn into stars, but did you watch the MSU/Alabama game? Alabama didn't have better game plan or anything like that, they were bigger, faster and stronger.

I like the optimism some of our fans have for PSU next year, but without caroo, and losing our entire LB core, how in the world are we supposed to stop Barkley? Forget Hack. That's ridiculous to say that will hurt them not having him with how much the same posters trashed him during the year. But either way with our LB's the way the are and an already suspect secondary, Barkley will run all over us, we just need to put more points up than they do

I can say the opposite, Penn State lost a lot on the Dline how are they going to stop Hicks and Martin. They lost their starting QB, and the coach stinks on game day. See it goes both ways.

That d*mn sky keeps falling on our heads everyday . :flush:

I agree, psu lost their d line but there backup was waaaaay better than hackenberg in their bowl game... Anyone else here watch it? Dude led a fourth quarter comeback, was mobile and poised, I think he's better than hackenberg. the have solid LB's and then there's Barkley... That one still stings to this day but I cannot remember a freshman running back being that good in a long time. I like Hicks and Martin but Barkley is on another level, he will cause serious problems for RU the next couple of years.

I hope I'm wrong but I just don't see our team being 25 points better this year or their team being 25 points worse

Regarding the defensive line, there's no doubt Penn State will feel the loss of Nassib, Zettel and Johnson. However, I think it's premature to think the defensive line will be bad. Torrence Brown did some nice things from DE, especially as last season went on, and it's time for Garret Sickels to capitalize on his talent at the other end spot. Defensive tackle is a little bigger question, but the two presumed starters both rotated in a good amount last season and they'll likely be backed up by two inexperienced but former 4-star prospects. Penn State could also still add JuCo transfer Tyrell Chavis to the mix, which would be an important addition at this point.

Anytime you lose three players to the NFL that area of the team is going to experience a drop-off; I just don't think it will be as severe as the average fan expects. I've watched Penn State replace a number of defensive linemen in recent years, from Tamba Hali to to Jared Odrick to Devon Still to Jordan Hill, so I'm optimistic about this next crop.

If star didn't matter why is Alabama and Ohio state recruiting five star kids? Why do coaches put hours into recruiting the best kids if it all about coaching them up. Why aren't Mac schools winning national championships? For every Jordan Hill there are about 300 2 stars who never pan out. It has been shown that their is a higher chance of success of higher rated kids.

Yea it's definitely naive to say stars don't matter but at the end of the day it doesn't matter what you did in high school, it's about what you do in college. Ur a PSU guy, I remember a few years back they had a highly rated RB prospect named Austin Scott that was supposed to take over college football, well along comes this no name Tony Hunt who outplayed Scott and won the starting job. It really can be a crap shoot when it comes to recruits. Another PSU example, 5* Anthony Morelli or 3* Daryl Clark... Which would you rather have?
