Any Prediction For Rutgers v Illinois Wrestling?

125 RU decision 3-0 (need this one)
133 ILL fall 3-5 (Richards revenges Midlands loss)
141 RU Tech 8-5 (must get tech))
149 RU decision 11-5 (RU favorite)
157 RU decision 14-5 (RU favorite)
165 ILL fall 14-11 (IMAR)
174 ILL decision 14-14 (ranked guy wins)
184 RU decision 17-14 (wins a close one)
197 RU decision 20-14 (1st big win)
285 ILL major 20-19 (avoid the fall)

I think we'll beat them rather soundly - say, RU 27; ILL14. Yes, we'll lose in 133 (Dip or Del may lose but they'll put up a good fight), 165 (fall or tech), but every other weight, we'll have the edge or it'll be very close (174 and Heavy). And we have a high chance of fall or tech in 141, 149, and 157.

Seems like there are many variables in 2 evenly matched teams

125 looks pretty even, being home RU needs Paetzell to step up and beat Piotrowski, who himself won twice at the Midlands Paetzell dec 3-0

We don't even know who's wrestling 133, 174, 197 and maybe 285 for RU yet.

At 133 who would give up the fewer bonus points to Zain Richards , Dip or Del Vech ?
Richards MD 3-4

141-157, RU hopefully racks up big bonus points

141 Ash TF- 8-4
149 Theo, dec- 11-4
157 JVB MD 15-4

165- the great IMart, probably a TF at least, possible fall
15-9

At 174 I think a healthy Bak could give Brunson a good match, upset a longshot. Pagano looked pretty good at the Midlands. 15-12

184- this is close matchup, but Gravina should be pumped wrestling at home, give this to Nick. 18-12

At 197 I"m guessing it will be Correnti, facing Andre Lee. Lee seems to be a .500 wrestler throughout his career, Correnti not even at that level yet, at best this is a toss up IMO, w Lee a small favorite. Le 18-15

285- I'm guessing Brooks Black v McDonald. Black is good but hasn't gotten any bonus points yet this year,so many on giving up 3 points in a decision. Black 18-18

Criteria :
http://news.theopenmat.com/college-...ry-criteria-for-settling-dual-meet-ties/31353

should be a good one. hope everyone is healthy and on weight coming back from Midlands.

125: Paetzall dec Piotrowski 3-0 Rutgers
133: Richards MD Dip/Del 4-3 IU
141: Ashnault MD ??? 7-4 RU
149: Theobold dec Ervin 10-4 RU
157: JVB dec Langenderfer 13-4 RU
165: Imar pin Scott 13-10 RU
174: Brunson dec Bakuckas 13-13
184: Gravina dec Parker 16-13 RU
197: Messner dec ??? 19-13 RU
285: Black dec ??? 19-16 RU

but really only Ashanult and Imar's matches are locks. could go a lot of different ways. I expect some surprises.

I think we should start Delvecchio at 133, Theo at 149 and Pagano at 174. Delvecchio is more defensive and less risky than Dippery is...hold Richards to no more than a major. Theo should bounce back and Pagano has a better chance at an upset than Bak. Here's how I think it goes down:

125 Paetzall vs Piotrowski RU Dec 3-0
133 Delvecchio vs Richards Ill MD 3-4
141 Ash TF RU leads 8-4
149 Theo Dec RU leads 11-4
157 JVB MD RU leads 15-4
165 Scott TF loss to IMart RU leads 15-9
174 Pagano upset Dec over Brunson RU leads 18-9
184 Gravina Dec RU leads 21-9
197 Correnti Dec RU leads 24-9
HVY McDonald Dec Loss to Black

RU 24-12 Final

This prolly the best case scenario. I'd flip flop Brunson over Pagano and Black getting the major making it RU 21-16 final

Just basing it on what I saw at Midlands. Dippery is too risky a wrestler and the last thing RU needs is a pin by Richards at 133. Delvecchio has good defense and can hopefully do damage control, giving up at worst a major decision loss. Pagano wrestled extremely well at Midlands and Bak seems to have a mental block with the ranked guys, kind of like Billy Smith.

Delvecchio's goal isn't to win...its to not get teched or pinned. Notice I said, no worse then losing by MD.
Stupid statement-of course Delvecchio's goal is to win. National qualifier and Top 20 ranked kid is looking to Win not keep it close.

Delvechio will get majored
Ash getting a tech is huge. Needs to stay in Midlands mode
Theo needs a big win.
Vanbrill could always get six points or a tech. He has been known to do that.
I hope they Give Pagano a shot. We know what Bak will do so maybe Pagano can get the upset.
Needless to say it all starts will Patzell getting us started early. Must win at 125.

125-RU-Dec-being captain obvious here, but we need this match and think P-burg flash gets the home crowd going-3-0 RU
133-Ill-Dec-Richards to much for Del, but Scott keeps it close(some on here selling Delvecchio short) --3-3
141-RU-AA with the Tech, could really use a pin here!!!-8-3 RU
149-RU-Theobold with the Decision-11-3 RU
157-RU-JVB-with a Dec, Langenderfer not bad, maybe JVB can get his top work going and grab a major will stick with a Dec. 14-3 RU
165-Ill-Imar with the pin-anything less is a win. 14-9 RU
174-Ill-Dec against either Backukus or Pagano- 14-12 RU
184-RU-Gravina grinds out a comfortable win-17-12 RU
197-RU-Correnti gets a win! Not even sure who Ill puts on the mat but the frosh clinches the match-RU-20-12
HWT-Ill-Black wins a major(he does not score many points, but think he does get the major) RU-20-16.

Any match that gets flipped against us will have the Ill win. But think RU gets the 20-16 victory.

I think Theobold comes out on a mission tonight. He can't be happy how Midlands ended. I think he gets Bonus tonight.

Let's Go RU!.

I think I blew that prediction. Forgot about how well Giraldo wrestled at Midlands and placed higher. Giraldo by MD.

Let's Go RU!
Hope you are right, but cant see Ervin getting MD. He is very tough. I could see Theo catching him in one of his cradles off a scramble and pinning him before him getting a major. I do not see either he or Giraldo getting a major.

I predict PAIN!!!

(Sorry, have been trying not to post that for a few days...have to love Mr. T.)

Good luck tonight guys. I'll be following your in-match thread.

LOL ! You found our wrestling (& other olympic sports) board ! lol.
PS- Penn St wrestles tonight too ! All on BTN plus. Iowa v Michigan on regular BTN TV

You know I've been on here before. PSU goING to put the hurt on Minny. Will be first I have seen them this year. Anxious about Soriano.

How is your young lightweight kid doing?

At Skull session, looks like DelVecchio and Giraldo going. Didn't say if Phil or Pagano.

Our 125 is a true freshman, doing OK, not great like Suriano. He's quick but not as strong as some older 125lb upper classmen. Suriano (I heard) was held back in JR HS, I don't think Paetzell did this, but not sure). Anyway, Paetzell has a bright future, needs to stay at 125 and get stronger. Suriano I expect to face Gilman 3x this year, in a few weeks in the dual, at the Big10 finals, and at the NCAA finals.

I'll be watching the Penn ST match tonight also, as well as the Iowa match. Can't beat the BTN Plus subscription.

wrong about the RU 125lber..wouldn't be surprized if he was as old or older

So I'm sure everybody had Theo not wrestling. Back and Grav losing. Correnti and Gross closing things out with wins (no Black). Etc. Almost as unexpected crazy as when Hrymack went on his crazy winning/pinning spree a year or two ago. Love it!

Even though the final was 8-6, Suriano looked dam good tonight against Lizak who dominated the Scuffle.

Looks like DelVecchio came to wrestle last night. Came out, got the first TD early and even finished off the match with 2. I'm not one for "good losses" or moral victories, but that was a solid match for Scott. Dip may have given up bonus points.

Me thinks Ash having flu kept him from turning and decking that kid in the first.

I'm coming around to supporting going with Pagano now. I really wanted Bak to take it to the next level this year, but the kid has no offense. I know Brunson is tough, but we pretty much know what Bak will do regardless of opponent.

McCabe loses that match. Paetzal deserves to be on the mat right now.

I don't know what to say about Giraldo at this point. Kid is an enigma. He has all the talent in the world but just shuts down sometimes. Can't use weight loss as an excuse. Time to go back to Theo and ride home out.

Suriano couldn't get up in the 2nd period from down position. Got a stall warning. BTN announcer wondered if Suriano had 'Elmers Glue ' on his stomach, lol. The same announcers found the loudmouth with the NJ accent screaming behind them annoying, . Then they said it was Suriano's father, lol.
Suriano is tremendous on his feet. I think Gilman beats him , but it could be close. Lizak did almost tilt Suriano twice, Gilman probably would have gotten back points in that situation, IMO.

Suriano and Gilman probably meet up 3 times in next few months... Dual, Big 10 tourny and NCAAs.

Yeah, the 3rd period was all Lizak. Having said that, was good for Suriano to get underneath and experience that in January rather than March. If a different strategy was used, e.g. taking neutral, I think Suriano could have majored Lizak, which is saying something.

Attendance prediction?
2,500 .

"No. 19-ranked Van Brill hit a reversal and stuck Langenderfer at the 4:46 mark, igniting the 2,552 fans at the Rutgers Athletic Center and giving No. 11 Rutgers a 13-6 lead at intermission"

How's that for a prediction ?

how do you almost tilt someone? Lizak didn't get any swipes at all in the bout?
