It's hard to complain about offense in a game we scored 40, but one of the most insightful things the announcers said on the broadcast today IMO is how our offense only consists of 3 components. Inside/split zone running game, RPO, and deep shots. This makes our offense very predictable and I think is a big reason why we have these second half stalls so often. When it works and we're playing bully ball it's awesome, but we wear down mostly every game we're matched with equal or more physical talent. We are finally in a spot where we have legitimate explosive playmakers like Black, Benjamin, Raymond, Miller, Strong, Sheffield and Campbell next year. There needs to be a better plan to get them the ball in space. There couldn't have been a bigger difference in this style of play than we saw today. KST gets the ball to playmakers in space in so many different ways. Jet sweeps, swing passes, outside zone, misdirection, etc. They got our defense moving laterally which allowed them to gain chunk yardage and eventually break off big runs north and south. We do none of that and it is the reason we ran inside zone every first down for a combined total of 0 yards in the first 6 possessions of the 2nd half. This goes back to Greg's conservative style and is the reason I think we seem like the only P4 team not able to pull off any of these big upsets. We have to play a near perfect game to win when we're outmatched. I really hope Greg and Kirk sit down in the offseason and take the training wheels off a bit because we are so close. I know we'll never completely change our style, nor should we, but let's find new creative ways to get our explosive players the ball.
