Have to trust Pikiell & Young
- and their ability to see through all of the extraneous elements & determine genuine potential, 'teachability' and probability of becoming a key piece of the puzzle.
Kid is 6' 10" and 250 lbs with a 7' 1" wing span - he is legitimately big - undoubtedly raw - but seems to likely have genuine potential -
If forced to guess about what his future might hold - his smarts and attitude would seem to be reason for optimism.
He appears to have a mind-set that would match Pikiell's perspective - he speaks in a way that makes you believe that he embraces the idea that a basketball team is a coordinated machine - everybody has to hit their marks, and know where their teammates are located & where they are going - and have a sense of the same for the opposition.
This quote from Zagoria's piece may reveal a lot about the kid's approach - or he has been trained to say the right things (but kinda doubt that)
“My skill set is being able to pass the ball very well and being a rim protector as well a great pick-setter and pick and roll/pop offensive player,”
... it is specific, it emphasizes elements needed in team basketball - it is not fist-pumping brash self praise - it seems to match with a methodical & accomplished approach to practicing the craft of playing basketball in a strategic & planned way.
