A COMBINED 21 mins. Come on. It’s on to next year and we need to retain those kids. Why would they want to stick around?
I understand what you’re saying but what has martini done to give the impression he would add offense. Grant is a better three point shooter this year. I’d like to think we’d have a better op at second chance pts with Grant and Dortch.I thought we could have used them for some defense, but think Pike was searching for any offense. Grant was poor offensively and Dortch doesn't add any. Think he was hoping Martini could get hot, but I wouldn't have kept Lathan out there so much. Martini battled defensively.
not at all they would have been eaten alive by the 2 Michigan bigs. Zak played well today defensively. Experience over youth, Pike wanted to grind it out rather than outscore themA COMBINED 21 mins. Come on. It’s on to next year and we need to retain those kids. Why would they want to stick around?
Respectfully agree to disagree. Grant and Dortch did well in the first half. Maybe because Golden wasn’t 100%. Martini did work hard but I didn’t find him effective defensively. Just my opinion.not at all they would have been eaten alive by the 2 Michigan bigs. Zak played well today defensively. Experience over youth, Pike wanted to grind it out rather than outscore them
RU was down 7 and lucky to be in the game with a plethora of turnovers by Michigan. Ace didnt show and thats the main reason, some of it because of the double team, some it because of AceRespectfully agree to disagree. Grant and Dortch did well in the first half. Only 21 mins for AcuffRutgers had 20 more shots than Michigan which tells me the offensive rebounding was good but shooting was abysmal.Davis had a very good game scoring.,Bailey had a poor shooting game and the rest of the team was ice cold except for Acuff who didn't take enough shots. The half court offense was iso with no ball or player movement.Bailey stood in the corner and rarely touched the ball,Michigan knows Rutgers weakness on offense and allowed many wide open 3 pointers which were missed.
All valid points. I guess I’m just biased In that I’m looking to next year and I want to retain the three froshRU was down 7 and lucky to be in the game with a plethora of turnovers by Michigan. Ace didnt show and thats the main reason, some of it because of the double team, some it because of Ace
grant was 1-6 and dorstch hasnt made a shot....pike didnt want awful shots going up...its bad enough we have to deal with Lathans bad shot selection. the only way to stay in the game was a mucky slow down defensive game where we lean on older guys who didnt jack shots up. I thought Pike coached a solid game given the circumstances and Ace struggled. Perhaps Acuff could have seen more time but also a bit weary on putting a big onus on himPike reverted back to a lineup that just doesn't offer any defense or alters any passes or shots in the paint. Zach battled inside and took a number of elbows and shoulder shots in 27 minutes, but thats just too many minutes for this type of game.
Dortch just doesn't offer anything going to the basket but he did grab 5 rebounds in just 9 minutes of 1st half play and 2 of the boards were offensive ones, where he got RU 2nd chances.
Wolf and Golden were not very mobile and I would have went back to Grant or Dortch in the 2nd half. We did get the last second 3 pointer from Zach, but its just not enough productivity for 27 minutes.
That stat is criminal, he is easily one of the few shooters we can rely on and he only gets 21 minutes. He needs to start and his minutes need to get bumped up, same as JMike, cut the minutes down for JWill and Derkack. Pike and Schiano have one thing in common…..bad feel for the game.Only 21 mins for Acuff
Again very valid, logical thoughts just funny that awful shots is what martini mostly chucked. 1-6 for Grant and 1 of 4 for Martini is irrelevant to the point of the game....there's no offensive rebounds coming our way with Martini and no cheap points via a lob or layup without Dortch or Grant.grant was 1-6 and dorstch hasnt made a shot....pike didnt want awful shots going up...its bad enough we have to deal with Lathans bad shot selection. the only way to stay in the game was a mucky slow down defensive game where we lean on older guys who didnt jack shots up. See I disagree. Martini worked hard but wasn’t effective. Wolf and Golden were very efficient down the stretch. Ultimately it’s 6-6/6-7 vs 7’. Give me the bouncy 6-10 kid with tremendous reach. Grant and Dortch did well in the first half inside.ZERO issues....Zach Martini played a huge role in our defense. He is the best at defending and switching screens. I thought he gave the defense a huge lift when he entered the game.
If anything I have an issue with Somerville playing.
This year is gone. Coach up the frosh and let them play and learn. Losing with Martini throwing up airballs when he’s gone in six weeks does nothing for meZach did great in defense. Lathan is a stupid and selfish liability.
Martini was hustling but did not offer consistent defense. He had 3 boards in 27 min Dortch had 5 boards in 9 min.ZERO issues....Zach Martini played a huge role in our defense. He is the best at defending and switching screens. I thought he gave the defense a huge lift when he entered the game.

He was very good with switches. Teams figure out how to beat us defensively and use screens to get match ups they like OR even better have RU leave an open man.See I disagree. I know +/- have flaws. Who had the highest +/- in the game on either team?
Zach Martini +10
Just proves how deceptive a stat like +/- is.He was very good with switches. Teams figure out how to beat us defensively and use screens to get match ups they like OR even better have RU leave an open man.

he provided defense and maturity and thats why Pike had him there...of course he isnt a good shooter...trust him in that spot more than Grant who put up 6 shots in just 12 minutes..way too manyAgain very valid, logical thoughts just funny that awful shots is what martini mostly chucked. bingo..i knew you would appreciate what zak brought tonight...this was the zak we thought we would have every night..unfortunately what applied to this game likely will not apply to Illinois where I think Grant will see 20 minutes plusHe was very good with switches. defense and thats how Pike kept RU in the game1-6 for Grant and 1 of 4 for Martini is irrelevant to the point of the game....there's no offensive rebounds coming our way with Martini and no cheap points via a lob or layup without Dortch or Grant.
The whole point of playing Grant and Dortch is to get cheap putbacks, better defense and extra possessions on the glass and that can't happen if they're sitting next to Pike.
Lathan at least scores although his 3 point shots at some point have to go in, if the defense gives him that shot. He just has to take them with more confidence.
The lineups Pike runs out there, don't make any sense.....Derkack offers better on the ball perimeter defense, but you can't trust him to make good decisions in transition or with him attacking the basket. Playing a better defensive player in Derkack who is not a shooter, is backwards when paired with a so-so defender and not a typical rebounding in Martini...i would take my chances with Acuff on defense, but only with the better options on the defensive end on switching in the paint with Dortch or Grant instead of Martini.
Acuff, Grant and Dortch with more minutes probably allows more scoring and more rebounding/defense on those interior passes from Wolf to Golden or others. And Acuff was actually playing under control, this was a game to be stolen with better lineups in the 2H.....we can't ask for Ace to deliver every night and bail out veterans who aren't delivering on a consistent basis (Martini specifically)......27 minutes is just too many with him not hitting shots.
But you cannot play 27 minutes and throw up airball after airball. The game was 40-36 or 44-41 for endless possessions. Zach got one offensive foul when Holdin tried to toss him like a rag doll . But we were v getting steals and making things hard on the perimeter. It wasn’t Zach doing the majority of that heavy defensive lifting. We desperately needed more offense , and Pike not having Acuff out there enough , when you really needed to take the lead , or Grant back in for an offensive put back or maybe he does hit a 3. Not being able to seize the lead from the 12 minute mark to 6 minute mark by putting more offense into the floor and demanding we attack the basket it where the game was lost. You could have overcome the ridiculous # of 3’s and pulled out the game. Michigan was doing nothing and you let them off the hook.he provided defense and maturity and thats why Pike had him there...of course he isnt a good shooter...trust him in that spot more than Grant who put up 6 shots in just 12 minutes..way too many
I sincerely think you need to see a neurologist. Your basketball takes are that of someone with a brain injury.ZERO issues....Zach Martini played a huge role in our defense. He is the best at defending and switching screens. I thought he gave the defense a huge lift when he entered the game.

We lost because Ace shot blanks not because of Zak or PJ or sitting GrantBut you cannot play 27 minutes and throw up airball after airball. The game was 40-36 or 44-41 for endless possessions. You know Pike loves defense, and Acuff is one of the worst defensive players ever to play for him.Only 21 mins for Acuff
Is that true? You lose the game when you get 0 points off of 12 -13 offensive rebounds.
