Was reading up on Quincy Douby...and saw that he bought a house near Rangel in Freehold NJ.

Are we still in touch with Rangel? Does he have any more players like QD?

Just wondering.

Quincy no longer lives in NJ. He moved to Miami late summer and got married in September. He cut ties with Ringel some time ago.

We were fortunate enough to have dinner with Q and his wife the night before the UM game in November, and he attended the game with us. He waited for the team after the game and met the kids and posed for a few photos with them and Coach Pikiell.

Needless to say, his love for RU is strong. He will be back in NJ this winter schedule permitting for a game or two

I truly believe we should retire his number. Great to hear he feels strongly about his alma mater.

Working on that!
Not sure if the criteria has changed or if there are actually any recognized rules anymore, but once upon time, the criteria to be considered was that you had to have been named at least third-team All-America. I think that was a good call. As ridiculously unstoppable as Douby was his last year, if we retired his number then what about Eddie Jordan, Mike Dabney, Hollis Copeland, Roy Hinson, Keith Hughes, or John Battle? I love that he's still engaged with the program though.

Like I said...working on the details...still very early in the process, and I'm only "advisory" in the process anyway :)

I don't see it. Just my opinion. But really nice to hear he has such a favorable view of Rutgers.

With the all American criteria Rutgers will have a very hard time getting any future players number retired.Duke and other elite schools don't have that problem .

We already have a Rutgers Basketball Hall of Fame. Getting a number retired should be rare and the highest honor one can receive. And when you don't have criteria like the one I quoted then the selection process devolves into tearing guys down to show they don't deserve it. No one wants that!

Thanks for the info. Glad to hear a real Quincy (not Magoo) bleeds Scarlet.

When does Quincy's season begin?
Is he still with team in China?
He seems to be a living legend there: putting up #'s like Jordan, Kobe, Magic / Wilt combined.

Well, we did retire Eddie..

Does that count for anything?

I was in school when Douby was in school. Great player and made the team fun to watch (thank god for bball in the 2000s) but retiring a number is for all time greats and I am not sure he was there. I think he was the Herve type player after he left. Best player on the team and made it entertaining but not all time greats.

He was so much more accomplished than Herve, not even the same discussion.

Quincy led the most significant post season run we've had since 1992, was the Big Easts leading scorer his junior year, was a first round NBA draft pick, and has had record setting performances at the highest level of basketball played in China and around the world, and that's not even mentioning the Rutgers specific superlatives in his career!

Seems to me like the guy has a pretty good case...

Was/Am a huge QD fan. Makes me think of some of the real greats (in my mind) that played for us. Still hard to believe some of those late 90's / early 2000 teams didn't make it to the tourney.
