this guy Smith (released in August) signs with Raiders...but Ray can't get a real sniff. Yeah sure...there's no double standard here..LOL.

Thank God this guy Smith didn't kill somebody. he may have had to sit out a year before getting another chance with a team.

When are people going to let this go?

Rice not being on a squad has little to nothing to do with his criminal history, at this point.

It has much more to do with basic, fundamental business decisions.

The guy is 28 years old. He's been in the League for 6 seasons and out of it for going on 2. In his last season (2013) his rushing yards and TDs went down by 50% and his average went down 25%. On top of that, picking him up would cost a minimum of $870,000.

There are simply better bargains out there.

Disagree.

His production was down, yes, he was hurt. Harbaugh praised him for playing hurt. It was also well know their OL stunk Ray's last year. The backup, Bernard Pierce, who got a lot of carries also saw his production go way down. The next year when the ravens straightened out their OL, Pierce's production went back up.

As far as $870,000 that is nothing for an NFL team to fit under their cap. Yes, if someone gets hurt at this point, and a team needs a rb, there are better bargains. But we all know those players out there now are not in all likelihood going to produce like Ray might be capable of.

I don't know if he is done or not. I suspect he might have a couple years left. He is definitely worth a chance for $870,000.

I think the real reason he isn't getting a chance is because has become the national poster child for domestic violence because there is a video of the abuse. His case will continue to be in the news, its mentioned all the time, and teams are afraid of the probable sponsor backlash.

If you don't knock a chick out and drag her around caveman style, this is not a topic of discussion.

I won't let it go because of a perfect response about the situation just like this. 6 seasons is not a wash up. $870k is chump change. 2 years of rest is not a bad thing for a guy who works out like Ray. 1 season of reduced results given the mess that was the Ravens OL makes the whole counter argument a nice little wrap. Poster Child is the perfect explanation. Nuff said. Otherwise there would be 10+ teams ready to bet $870k on this guy.

As to the point of the OP, VIDEO VIDEO VIDEO!!! Did you see this ass-clown driving drunk? No, but everyone saw Ray Rice deck a woman.

IMO, two things are in play here, 1) the video, if there was a video on anyone else's legal situations, there would be a similar reaction, its tough to erase an image from your memory, for most people its etched. 2) like it or not, as a RB, he is on the cusp of being a productive player, all things considered, a team ways the pros and cons, with a guy like smith, the pros are huge, so a team rolls the PR dice
