I remember when AK was signed and people highlighted the fact that his completion percentage was about the same as GW. But everyone pointed to the ……. drops to help his cause. Here we are again. People also discounted all of GW TD because KM would convert them anyway. People are finding out that it’s not that simple.
I wanted to see screens from AK that GW was incapable of throwing.. nor was Vedral, oddly enough... we haven't had a tradition screen/swing game for some time now.. the Temple game last year notwithstanding. As someone who was fine with replacing Gavin (but didn't really have an opinion on AK either way) - you're not wrong.
He’s doing what his boss wants. Wouldn’t you ? It’s not a difficult concept.I wanted to see screens from AK that GW was incapable of throwing.. nor was Vedral, oddly enough... we haven't had a tradition screen/swing game for some time now.. the Temple game last year notwithstanding.
WTH is the OC doing?
Throw out last week. Weird game under horrific conditions. Dylan Raiola (sp) was not good either. Their punter hand more passing yards in second half than their QB.hate to pile it on, but AK wasn't very good last week either.
Had some what must have been high school players behind us in the club today. They were laughing at how bad our receivers were with the dropped balls. There were some that were athans fault. Not saying he does not need improvement. But many of his issue are due to awful scheme and play call. The throw you mention 100% Athans fault. The three I mention 100% on the receiver.
You can’t force a QB to make throws when it’s convenient for the play caller. You have to make calls as a play caller to accentuate what your players are proficient. Let the run set up pass. Play actions true RPO. Attack the middle of the field with shallow crossing routes especially when the D is falling off in zone because they are selling out against the run.
Kirk calls the plays.Sheppard gets in for garbage time late and simply hands off. No passes.
Brilliant Greg !
For the thousandth time, the OC calls plays the HC allows. If the HC advised, “keep it on the ground”, which surely was the plan by that point, of course that’s what occursKirk calls the plays.
If it works that way, it is pretty retarded. The OC is paid megabucks to call plays based on the defense, and Schiano over rides it?For the thousandth time, the OC calls plays the HC allows. Even if Brown catches that it's no gain or maybe even a loss because he had to do a 360 just to make an attempt to catch it with the defender then closing in on him.Receiver misses a GW pass and GW is a bum
Receiver misses a AK pass and its the receiver that's a bum
Its like watching same play - and receivers should have caught both
Something else our receivers are bad at- being aware of first down marker. Watching Wisconsin today and many other teams tonight, the receivers are fighting for the line to gain. Our receivers seem oblivious, stepping out of bounds or not fighting to get the first down. But the 3 drops bac referred to all hit the receivers. And they weren't the only ones.
I noticed this too. On the pass play before the infamous 4th and 1 stuff, it appeared to me that the receiver could have fought for the extra yard or two that would have gotten the first down. Leads me to believe maybe he didn't know where it was, or he was content with the gain and getting close.Something else our receivers are bad at- being aware of first down marker. Which play are you referring to? The backward pass to D Miller or the comeback rout to Black?I noticed this too. May have been Black. I just remember thinking at the time he could have gotten another yard or two. And that was before the 4th and 1 play.Which play are you referring to? The backward pass to D Miller or the comeback rout to Black?
That was a comeback route and his momentum was taking him away from the 1st down. That ball was late and that’s why it was short. Not Black’s fault.May have been Black. I just remember thinking at the time he could have gotten another yard or two. And that was before the 4th and 1 play.
Special teams are a mess. Did you see the Ole Miss kicker nail a 57 yarder to give them a 26-23 lead? Clutch, even though they lost in OT. When we line up for a 35 yarder I get nervous. And what was that punt from yesterday?!AK actually had a horrible game- yes, there were a couple of real drops but most were because the ball was not thrown well. And we are talking about WR's that are either very young, or very average.
With that said- While Greg may dictate the gameplan, KC just doesn't understand his personal, ever. It was his problem the first time through here as well.
And passes caught on 3rd down 2 yards short of the marker when the WR has tight coverage on him, doesn't help much either.
And the running game- same basic plays over and over. And then they stop KM with it so hey, let's change it up with a different RB but still run the same damn play.
Special Teams- what happened from last year to this year/ I get it- we are not going to return a kick ever but the kicking- just a complete mess.
AgreeAthan is not the problem. His receivers dropped 3 in a row on one possession. Was he all world today? Absolutely not. But the offensive staff has done a horrendous job of preparing and putting the offensive side of the ball in a position to succeed.
Play calling has been horrendous all year. Even in our wins.
I just needed to vent after that disaster. I think AK is not as bad as his performance against Wisc. I hope he bounces back next week. The coaches really need to help him. Next week is a must win game.

Seems to be a pattern with 2023, completion % versus quality of opponent:If you ever read articles and fans from last year you can see AK is the same this year as he was at Minn.
He was known to get skittish and could follow a perfect, laser pass with a lofty floater off target.
RU and Minn were in same passing basement last year (#126 and #127).
RU will not improve much this year.
Has already sunk to #115 with better teams looming and DCs with a lot of notes

AK #93 out of 100
Seems to be a pattern with 2023, completion % versus quality of opponent:
Neb 54.5%
EMU 66.7%
UNC 37.9%
NWU 73.7%
Louisiana Monroe 85.7%
Michigan 50%
Iowa 40%
Mich State 63.6%
Illinois 50%
Purdue 42.9%
Ohio State 57.9%
Wisconsin 57.1%
2024:
Howard 62.5%
Akron 60.9%
VT 64%
Washington 58.3%
Nebraska 40.5%
Wisconsin 37.5%
Seem to perform from game to game in a sinusoidal pattern -1 or 2 stinkers in a row mixed with 2 good games.
Should be a good game against UCLA.
I don't think they thought they were getting Joe Burrow. An upgrade for throwing? Yes. An overall improvement in W-L performance taking into account both QBs flaws? To be determined.Oddly enough, the QB with the lowest QBR vs Michigan in 2023 was AK at 7.4 - Wimsatt was highest with 84.5.
Things like that are why I had issue with RU coaches making it seem they got Joe Burrow to transfer from OSU.
I could see GW being replaced but going from 127th QB to 126th seemed like a sideways move for a B1G team.
