Auto renewal of season tickets

Received email for auto renewal of season tickets. Who is going to commit to season tickets without knowing the roster (transfer portal ins and outs) in early April, except for the long time season ticket holders who are going to renew every year? I think there will be a lot of turnover in season tickets after this debacle of a season. I know I am having a tough time renewing again with too many week day games that conflict with work and family commitments.

My dam SiriusXM just autorenewed over the weekend.
It's the worst.

How many people have gym memberships on autorenew?

This. Trying to armtwist the fans. Next you will have a NIL amount to pay.
That's going to be added sooner rather than later, as several programs have already begun to add it to football tickets.

We just doubled the entire football coaching staff expense when the AD already has a huge deficit.
Prices were always going up.

Honestly - having a defined "player cost fee" is the best option. Stop the AD from spending that money on whatever the hell else they want. At least you know where its going.

Maybe they need to add a dedicated "coaching staff fee" as well.

The whole explanation in the link is bizarre. What is the reasoning of auto renewal if there is a supposed deadline date other than to force you to renew in a quicker time frame with a gun to your head

Boo Rutgers boo... read the room

I have no issue with the 10% NIL. A two week window, which requires a form to be filled out, and no notice provided during that two week window seems predatory and dishonest to me.

Wouldn't you have to agree to auto-renewal in advance?
Wouldn't the contract (and tickets are a contract) have to clarify that you ate agreeing to future charges?

How can they just change the terms of the contract and force you to agree?

To be fair, Rutgers is currently at or very close to the bottom of the Big Ten in terms of season ticket prices for basketball currently.
Richie don’t waste your breath everyone over the age of 50 thinks we can win the way we did in 1976

They want the chicken before the egg

Win and then MAYBE we will donate. Never going to work like that again in a power conference

I’m not entirely sure this is legal.

My 2 minutes of google research indicates NJ requires an affirmative action from the consumer for an auto-renewal contract.
Just providing an “opt out” isn’t enough?
Any legal experts?

Maybe this isn’t the right statue?

(2) obtain the consumer’s affirmative consent to the agreement containing the automatic renewal offer terms or continuous service offer terms,

We needed to be in a better league to get the players.
We needed to pay our coach more.
We needed a $100+ million practice facility.
We just got 2 top 3 players.
School's getting like 75-80 MILLION more from the league. Where's that going?

What exactly has been done to the RAC since 1977 when it opened? Some new paint? No, they've eliminated sections for season tix holders and the place has crap outdated facilities.

Hey, you can have it. Personally I couldn't give a crap if we weren't in the B1G and somewhere more fitting of our historical neighborhood. For those who don't care about spending money and just want their school to win, go pay your tuition to enroll at OSU or Bama or MSU.

I'm sorry. At some point winning with what you have matters. Our even playing competitively matters. We continue to underperform no matter what resources we have. At some point "prove it" comes into play.

Two top ten nba draft picks and you guys are saying not even close to where we need to be with money needed to be competitive , good luck with that

The same delusional people saying bye and bemoaning NIL

WE WONT EVER BELONG IN THE B10 if we don’t catch up with the times

I would rather pay more and pay NIL and go see a competitive product then keep things the same and watch us lose cause of my morals

Good riddance
keep having this great atititude, i hope you dont work for RU athletics and thinks that a 5K seat season ticket wait list is actually real

do you realize that tix were under $20 for lower 200 seating for Iowa and it was $5 to get into the building

maybe you should wake up and realizee Rutgers has a very very small fanbase more akin to Northwestern than any other school in the Big 12. Where exactly do you think Rutgers is going to find all these potential future season ticket holders 3 years running with no ncaa tourney and those willing to spend wads of cash to unknown players

We are the lowest priced tickets face value and season tickets in the league

Instead of deflecting as to what you think ISNT the problem how about constructing a realistic path to success

Don’t just say recruit better … that requires more than a smile now

Maybe you should look for an A10 school to cheer for

If you’ve been to a major conference sporting event anywhere besides Rutgers 25-30 is typical for parking

Oh also Harper and Bailey were paid by a 3rd party not Rutgers NIL so the rest of the roster is who we could actually afford… scary

My point is if we are now doing professional sports, we need a GM, and we don't have one. the coach isn't the GM and he's not qualified for it. Regardless of how they got here, you can have have two top nba draft picks and still not be a tournament team. Where is the line? How many guys do you need? Some guys will be busts and /or disappoint. It's happening all over. We need a hundred mil for five guys every year and hope three of them are good?
I'm not interested in this version of college basketball.

I don’t think anyone is but if I don’t try to support it then my school will suck in perpetuity

Because it’s not going to change

“Rutgers basketball season ticket holders sue school for automatic season ticket renewal” would be so on brand for rutgers athletics.

It requires money, something we don’t have

WE DO NOT HAVE AN ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

HOW MUCH ARE THEY PAYING YOU

I agree with you I’m posing a question to the diehards that say money isn’t the problem or part of the solution
Whales. And don’t give me the “whales want to see 200 more fans pony up $10 a month by skipping lunch for a day so we can have $24k for NIL”. All the other B1G team have whales. Is it our job to get the whales too? We’re already being asked to give more than we can. Blood from a stone. You guys beat a dead horse. You want money, find the money. It’s not going to come from the 30 something with a mortgage and kids to put through college who forks over a good chunk of money for game tickets and concessions. And maybe those people are out there. Now find 10,000 of them to make a tangible difference. That still only gives you $1.2mm.

Yes our ticket pricing and parking might be low. It’s called market pricing. Pro sports compete for too much of the NJ sports fans dollar. The pricing is what it is because we have to have “technical” sellouts and can’t fill a football stadium. Raise the pricing it will get worse.

Also those schools with whales win. What’s our ceiling now with NIL? The NIT. Say you found 20,000 of above donors. Is the ceiling one win in the ncaas over 9 years. Winning solved problems. At some point you have to overachieve and we’re doing the opposite. Can’t even inbound a dam basketball.

Pike had a good few years of recruit, retain and develop. The game has changed. Richies podcast yesterday said how Pitino doesn’t even visit hs homes anymore. Just hit the portal and negotiate. That’s not Pikes style. Recruiting donors isn’t either. He doesn’t need to make excuses you guys do it for him. Overachieve, get more money. Find the whales. You’re sure as not going to get the required money but beating is who give what we can budget over the head time and time again.

The April deadline is ridiculous.

Have no idea how many games you're paying for, who they're playing, or who's on the team.

I'll probably let mine lapse this year and take my chances
definitely considering giving it up after 30 years...knowing that the next 2 years figure to be as ugly as it was in the Hill years....not sure i can stomach that and without any vision from the athletic department...i have heard some sentiment from some other longtime season ticket holders

If die hards are fencing it then yeah this basketball program is in serious trouble

There is an opt out period before auto renewal occurs
