They handled the game last night. Make sure to say "hi" to them from the stands when they next handle a game at the RAC (Jersey Mike's).

Same guy? Sounds like a beacon of integrity. Perfect person to be a Big 10 ref. Surprised the Big 10 doesn't scour the local horse tracks for other reputable characters to be refs.

Larry Scirotto, who took over the Fort Lauderdale Police Department in August of 2021, was relieved of his position last week after a report found that the 48-year-old chief made hiring and promotion decisions with an illegal race-based approach.

Bad calls happen all the time in every sport. Always have, and always will. In my experience as an athlete (not noteworthy) and a fan, I have learned that the most constructive thing to do is to move forward, get better, and not use them as excuses.

As a Maryland fan, I think our baseball team (not unrealistic to consider them Top Ten for last season, and worthy of a World Series berth) got screwed in the deciding regional game. As a Maryland fan, I think our football team got screwed against Purdue in a game that would have made a huge difference in the season. As a Rutgers and Maryland soccer fan, I think Indiana soccer was seeded too highly in the NCAA bracket, and has benefitted greatly from it.

But in the end, the baseball team should not have fallen behind by ten runs, the football team should have stopped Purdue on one of those fourth quarter drives, and the Maryland soccer team came up short against Indiana in the B1G tournament. I remember it that way instead of obsessing on what I thought were bad calls...

Reason enough to not bring him back. Just poach the best performing refs from smaller leagues

You did get screwed by that baseball call.

This was not what some call a traditional " bad" call during a game-- this was an egregious no call of an established rule that even came at the end of the game--its obvious we won that game , it's not debatable. And if you check college sports there have been goals or scores overturned after the event -they instituted instant replay to correct mistakes instantly , another failure by these refs

How is this not a disqualifier for almost any job you can think of, let alone a job in a billion++++ sports industry where huge sums of betting wagers are made on games he referees? The B10's got some explaining to do.

Refs are supposed to be completely impartial so someone with a history of discrimination of any kind isn't a trait that is acceptable for a ref

Agree completely with your assessment.

But this is different - we got screwed in our case.

It's Totally different

Respectfully -- it is different. It's only one game in a long season. Imagine, going back to my examples, if the team's season ended over it, when it kept them, analogizing (is that a word?) on my example, from the Final Four?

After watching that game I realized how tough and skilled this bunch is and how awesome their coach is. They will survive, and so will Rutgers fans...

I was being sarcastic. You are spot on.
If we don't want the refs to blow the last play of the game, don't put them in a position to do so.

It's growing pains as we climb out of the B1G basement and try to gain respect. We aren't blue bloods and won't get benefit of the doubt on calls. You sometimes have to take some bad calls on the way up to respectability.

I'm an Illini fan and I am rabidly and totally in disagreement with anyone who posts that egregiously bad calls in any sport should be allowed to stand and the aggrieved team and their fans should just suck it up and accept it. The B1G has screwed over my Illini time and again and this call last night would send me through the roof if I was a Rutgers fan. Total screw job. If the refs can review if a shot is released before the clock hits 0:0, or review who last touched a ball that goes out bounds then they can certainly review if a player was "eligible" for participation. When is the last time you saw Michigan, Michigan St, or OSU get screwed by an egregiously incorrect call? I wish Pikiell would have thrown a fit and got the ref's attention. It is time for these insanely bad calls and B1G refs to be called into question and for some level of accountability to be enforced. This crew should be suspended, fined, or both for the incompetence they demonstrated in the final moments of last night's game.

You know as well as anyone that Ohio State and Michigan are the golden boys who can do no wrong as far the Big Ten administration is concerned. We're relatively new to the league and we could see that immediately.

BTW, I like your team this year and posted pre-season in Illinois Rivals that I believe they have been underrated in the preseason. Teams with veterans and hard-nosed defensive guys like McConnell and Mulcahy usually finish in the top of the conference, and your team is well coached. I'm glad we only play you once and it's at our place. Good luck the rest of the way.

Thanks, Illinois always worries me but you guys don't have Kofi anymore thankfully. When not playing us, I like watching you guys too. Would feel better if our game was at the RAC lol

Sorry. Q1 games Matter. Especially for a team called out in the past for poor road performance. That would have highlighted as a top RU win on the resume .

Bummer seeing Mulcahy laying on the court when it was over, struggling to deal with the ending.
I had similar feelings sitting in my recliner. Rutgers had that game. real, real bummer.
OTOH, it looks like we've got a pretty good team.

Since you are replying to me: I don't disagree with a word you said. I even volunteered in another thread to join the Rutgers fans in storming the NYC office, ha ha. I will take the blame for failing to communicate my position, but there is a nuanced difference between your characterization of my post and what I was actually trying to say.

Believe me, as a Maryland fan for decades, I fully understand that some teams are treated differently than others. Maryland won a lot of games in the ACC, but only two tournament titles. LOL. It wasn't a coincidence. Because once they reached the finals, they were playing in Greensboro NC, in a building with 16K "anybody but those Maryland Yankees!" fans, and the referees would not make fair calls in that environment. It's laughable how many times they lost by 1-2 points in the title game. Although protests never did any good, I was always glad they made them. I am still angry forty years later about the non-call on the last play against Duke in the 1980 championship game. If you saw the video, which is available on YouTube, you would understand why.

And ha ha, if Ohio State or Michigan had succeeded on a two-point conversion to tie a game against Purdue, there certainly would not have been a flag because a lineman 30 yards away took a couple steps in the wrong direction. I get that.

Nobody cares what I think here (I am also a guest), so I won't try to explain myself further.

Go Rutgers! and Illinois!
