Bad news from MLax

Yeah it was noticeable that he was not participating in drills this weekend.

That is just really unfortunate news. Hope for a fast, full recovery and for him to come back even stronger in 18. Wonder if they apply for a 6th year?

Any ideas on who steps up in his place?

Give me a F'ing break. Can we go 1 week without bad news. Grant comes back and boom we have a lacrosse injury. And this is one of our good teams. Wrestling lost a ranked player for the year. This sucks

I was afraid we might get an injury or two this year.

We lost our goalie last year, but we had a more than capable back up. A side from him, we were very fortunate. A few nagging injuries, but the squad as a whole was pretty unscathed.

Unfortunate for this to happen to one of our high profile players.

The players seem to be responding appropriately.

And CVS lost her two top players as well.

Was Charalambides the one doing rehab work in the corner? I saw someone across the bubble but did not go check. Seemed to be shoulder work.

No that was not AC I asked a couple of players and he was not at practice and I did not see him. I think this opens opportunities for some other kids, as you probably know I am very high on Mullins and also think that Murphy has performed very well in the time I have seen them. Verycrusse is probably in the next group with Scarpello, but I really like the kid Schante (sp) tall long fluid, I thought he could get moved to to midfield because I think his game translates well for this offense. Verycrusse seems like a very strong backdown bull dodge, kind of a back to the goal type kid, and I think that they like more of a face up north south dodger. One thing that I noticed on my trips to practice is that when certain kids get the ball it kind of dies in their stick, some of that is a by product of being the best kid on their team and always having the ball so it takes a while to share. I hope that these guys are up for the challenge as they have alot of pieces to work with.

He was more than on their radar. He was a commit.

His video looks good. Like what is now a typical Rutgers recruit- athletic, can run, and in his case, shoots really well from the alleys.

Our recruiting is going the way it should be. Seems to just get stronger and stronger every year. Detracting from a conference foe while making us stronger is a great thing.

I love Brecht's strategy of hammering the Midwest. The lack of D1 programs out there is a big time advantage for RU. Surprised schools like Minny, Wisconsin and Sparty aren't considering adding M/W Lax as a D1 spring sport.

Definitely a lot of talent there.

One of our new assistants is from there so it makes sense to see us landing some kids from there. There are a few programs there, namely ND, Marquette, and few smaller players.

Middies who look and move like safeties and poles that look and move like power forwards.

I like this kinda party![devil]

Inside Lacrosse just tweeted that Charalambides is going to miss the 2017 season with an injury

Fuc&...Double Fuc&!!! Man I feel bad for AC and the team. Love to watch this guy play.
I think we have guys who will step up.
BTW how is Jevon Dunmore doing in practice, will he get some burn this season?

Granted, it can benefit us for Midwest recruits but Title IX is the albatross around the neck of mens Division 1 lax.

Not if they add women's lax at the same time.
Very true but
Or if they have it already.
What he said.

The demand for more D1 men's lax programs is there. A handful of programs can theoretically add men's and women's lax simultaneously to offset things. However, many D1 schools have already added women's lax to offset football.

Again, demand is there. Cleveland State just added mens D1 lax. They had a scrimmage last week and apparently 2k people showed up.

I know there are more important things in life to protest for/against and title IX had some positive aspects, but to be on my soapbox for a second, college D1 mens lax is really getting a raw deal. Providing equality by taking away from one group isn't really the best solution.

My kids are 9 & 10 and I am VERY active in coaching. I am not optimistic that the division 1 landscape changes much in the next eight years. I was at a tournament in Indio CA last week. There were several hundred boys teams there. Within a 300 mile radius of that tournament, there is maybe 3-4 division 1 mens teams.

You realize all 3 schools I mentioned (Sparty, Minnesota and Wisconsin) do not offer D1 men's OR women's lax at this time. Hence my statement, they could add both simultaneous and still be Title IX compliant.

It was always a zero sum game. For every Susie that got a scholarship, every Johnnie didn't, except in the rare instances when both sports added. More often than not, a men's sport got cut or a women's only added.

If it were the fall I would say absolutely no but, it seems he has improved his handle and he is very athletic, but he is still behind other freshmen

Thanks. I thought Jevon would probably need some polishing in his stick skills but watch out when does. Also he likes to get very physical.

You can his athleticism but, his stickwork and transition to college defense may take some time.

Cali- I am hearing really good things about Groel really stepping up leading the defense. I have been told that he is the best Communicator on the defense and is really the glue for that group.

That is really great to hear. For my All American predictions, I mentioned our Jules and AC, and think we will get 1 middie and one D man on the list. Groel was who I had in mind when I typed that.

He is a great athlete, and with our style, can really be a factor from the back. That sort of hockey play he had against Penn St. last year to that assist to Bieda was A+.

I saw him play in high school and he was a do it all kid. Faced off, played man up, man down, close, and d mid. At the time I didn't think much of it because I knew he was coming to play D here, but with our style, it wound up being a really good thing. He gets the ball in his stick and he isn't just looking to get rid of it. He is looking to make things happen.

Yup, good point.
Perhaps a bit of a bias with where I live now but the fact that every single Pact 12, Mtn West and Big 12 school doesn't have lacrosse is a shame. Obviously, I don't know the specific lacrosse demands of states like Oklahoma or New Mexico so I might be talking out of my butt. The northern schools which you mentioned, with the longer winters have a bigger obstacle than warmer climates schools.
