Baye Ddongo . What a loss with Karl Hobbs taking him to Ga. Tech with him last year.

Besides having a great freshman year last year , today in a 25 point blowout of NC State he put up 29 points on 10-17 shooting with 19 rebounds. Wow !!! He is a 2 way player that would have helped our defense tremendously this year and would have great on offense as well. Damn shame. Hobbs left to be second fiddle to Damon Stoudamire just like he was here and went from the BIG 10 to the ACC. Don’t get it but it cost us big.

Hobbs gets additional exposure in a different conference. Helps his career working under different coaches & with varying styles. It wasn't against Pike just good long-term career move.

Yes it hurt losing him.

Knight had more influence than Hobbs at Rutgers.Time to move on with their careers.Yes, Ddongo would have been a difference maker being a third scoring threat with Bailey and Harper.

Ga Tech is a program mainly irrelevant and dormant

1 NCAA tourney in 15 years and that was in a weird covid season
So why the move. ? He was being paid well and had the title of Associate Head Coach , had roots with Pike back to UConn and George Washington. I just know it really has sucked for us as we really would have benefitted having a 2 way player that can score and I think efficiently looking at some of his stats.

Probably change of scenery opportunity as they moved on from Pastner years was worth it for him

Hobbs is making 120K more, than he was making at Rutgers. Money talks.

Pike wouldve tried to redshirt him last season anyway and he wouldve transferred out

There's always got to be one idiot in the bunch to make a stupid statement like this. Congrats on being the guy.

For better or worse, HC Pike would play an entire 24 man roster.
He's the last coach to critize for being overly cautious and redshirting players.

I never fully believed that Dortch was going to redshirt even without an Ogbole injury.

That seems like it was a very deliberate decision and I'm sure HC Pike didn't make it easily. He likes having everyone available.

We would have matched. What hurt was Ndongo was tied to him. If he stays then Ndongo stays
It was more than just Hobbs going to GT. Baye was offered more money to flip. But that's something that everyone wants to keep under the rug. Otherwise he would have been here as a freshman and likely this year with Ace & Dylan coming in.

His time at GT is likely over. His last 10 games, he's averaged 16.7 and 12.3 with GT going 7-3. That's going to attract a lot of interest in the portal from top 25 programs.

Pike has an eye for the right talent. He would have gotten the Martin brothers but Nevada found $ome way to get them instead

That’s why I want to see him stay and figure this out

lol.
But it’s not about Hobbs building a career …I could see if knight did this

Could be a ton of reasons he left. Maybe he just preferred Atlanta. I think he had a knack for assisting young coaches grow and maybe preferred that challenge.

So the move was voluntary on Hobbs’ part? For some reason I was under the impression things had soured between Hobbs and Pike and Hobbs was encouraged to move on.

Did Hobbs have any other big recruiting wins for RU?

The way he's figured it out this year? He's past it.
