BEAT WASHINGTON!

The Mariners start a homestand vs the Angels' and Millville's Mike Trout that Friday for those interested.

"Outlook: After a couple of so-so seasons to start his tenure at Washington, coach Chris Petersen seems poised to become a Pac-12 North challenger in 2016. Quarterback Jake Browning and tailback Myles Gaskin were two of the best freshmen in the country this past season"

There's a concept, a FRESHMAN QB starting and having an outstanding season, and another FRESHMAN having an outstanding season. A

Clearly it will be a serious test for Ash and Co right out of the gate. We will learn something right away.

Game 1 of a new regime, with lots of new things going on, versus a Top 25'ish team, in one of the most hostile environments in the nation, please keep an open mind fellas.

That being said BEAT THE FUSKIES!!!

Washington is a real challenge for Rutgers more so than Wazzu. I'm hoping Ash can get more out of the players than Flood. If he does who knows what could happen. Never say never.

I reside in PAC-12 Territory and U-Dub is legit and expect them to be in a fight to win the PAC-12 North this year. The defense which was supposed to be rebuilding last year (very good) is back and Gaskins is a special back.

UDub should be favored, but we shall see. Hopefully, Rettig will be allowed to fully develop and the defense brings their A game. Need to pull an upset against my brother in law's team. I will be there! First down! Touchdown! Go RU! Go Knights!

"Should be"?! They are gonna be somewhere around 12 point favs

Let's not write this opening game as an automatic loss. Washington has lost key players as well this upcoming season. And Washington has no game film on the new RU offense. A win is definitely possible.

It's a POSSIBILITY, sure, but we're going to be 12-14 point 'dogs. Let's not get too crazy here and maybe listen to the experts. Gonna be very, very difficult to come home from Seattle with a "W" and I'm not putting those kind of expectations on this program/team/staff right now.

I said it before and I'll say it again, we will learn a lot on opening day about this staff and this team. I look forward to the game plan, the in game adjustments, the fight in the dog (not the husky).

If we are 14 point underdogs I would bet serious money on RU. Washington is ok. They have no game film on us and we have talent. Big test to see if ash can coach imo

I swear some of you guys are setting your expectations way too high in terms of "WHAT" we will/won't find out about this team in Game 1. I would say there are SOME areas I'd like instantly know more about this staff, like "the fight in the dog" kind of stuff, excitement, play-to-the-whistle, lack of stupidity out there, and whatnot, but I think I'll leave it at that for a while.

The last time we were in Seattle we were 10 point dogs to WSU.
From my seats in Century Link Field I knew the Cougars and their All PAC QB were looking past RU.

Look forward to my trip on Sept 3rd to Husky Stadium.
Watch out for the Ash upset in his Opener !!!!

Washington is better than okay - or, it was last season, anyway. It stifled USC and it destroyed the same Washington State team that beat us. Actually, it wasn't the same WSU team ... it was the much improved, end-of-year team that beat UCLA, Miami and should have beaten Stanford. Washington wasn't a great team, but it showed flashes of moving in the direction of "very good."

Not saying it's not winnable for us or anything, but we're not on equal footing at all.

lets not kid ourselves.Rutgers will probably be the underdog in every game except Howard and New Mexico at home.

I'd say we're likely a 3-point favorite of New Mexcio but, yeah, you're correct (for now, anyway...).

Washington is #13 in the ESPN FPI ranking, will be a difficult test for us to start the year. Nevertheless, I'll be making the trip to Seattle to see the beginning of the Ash era. Can't wait.

Very tough opening to the season. Washington will be in the top 25. Rutgers will be in the top 85. If Rutgers wins, It would be a colossal achievement for Ash in his first game.

WSU played Huskies without their stud qb...

For many attending the game, the main idea is to have the flashiest boat in a tv close up of the marina. That's livin', man...

Unfortunately it maybe very difficult to cover 12 at UW with their team pumped up for a division run and system fully in place with seasoned returning players. Lets hope that is us in a couple years.

UW will be more than a 2 TD favorite. The lack of game film meme is laughable.

Enjoyed the win over WSU at the Clink, but the game at Husky Stadium will present crowd and noise bigger challenges. I'll be there doing my part to even things out.

Division run? I checked with a Cal buddy who knows his PAC12 football and follows Rutgers, and he had this to say:

"I don’t see UW winning the Pac 12 north considering they placed 5th in the division this year. I know some think they will be second after Stanford, but I just can’t see them being on top of Oregon and Wash St. Plus I think Cal will be bowl eligible again even with the loss of Goff. I think it will be a tight race with UW being somewhere in the 2-5 range. With that said, any team that will make it to a bowl game can be trouble for Rutgers."

I was pretty pumped until the last sentence.

There will definitely be publications pumping them up for a "pre-season" North title run.
