Bengals meltdown in last minute

Who is the genius that puts Burfict and Pacman on the same team? I remember when Burfict was at Arizona he was a mental patient. You love him if hes playing next to you but its guaranteed he'll cost you games or worse. I held my breath that year none of my teams took him. NFL needs to lose these mental players. Pretty soon they'll be fighting over the colors of their towels

I did notice the spread ended at either Pitt -1.5 or -2 at most locations.

That's what happens when a team is talented but undisciplined. Talented enough to get to the playoffs, but undisciplined where it hits them at the worst possible time.

Sucks that three great RU players on that team have to be on the same team

he reached over the refs back to yell or point to some steelers coach who was talking to burfict. hit the ref because of it and get another 15 yards

Maybe the worst loss ever, in terms of doing really dumb things when a win was almost assured...

1) Bengals intercept the ball on the Steelers 28 or so with about 1:40 left
2) Hill runs the ball and doesn't secure it and it's ripped out by the Steelers, who recover around their 20 - didn't even force them to use any of their TOs. Could've taken a knee 3 times, used up the Steelers TOs, then kicked a FG to go up 4.
3) Then Pitt drives the ball to near midfield and on a missed pass, Burbick (sp?) rocks a defenseless Brown with a shoulder to the head, nearly knocking him out. Should've been 2nd and 10 from midfield with no TOs left and maybe 25 seconds left, but now the ball is on the Cincy 33. In the ensuing screaming by the Bengals PacMan Jones pushes a ref and they get another 15 yards down to the 18 or so. Steelers don't waste any time or take any chances and kick the winning 35 yard FG. 18 seconds left. and game over after PacMan only gets the KO out to the 25. Horrible and disgraceful.

Between this circus and Odell Beckham's meltdown it has reaffirmed why I do not care for professional football. Hoodlums doing whatever they want with absolutely no repercussions from the head coaches. Both of those players should have been pulled out of the game before they cause any harm to another player. Beckham's and Burfict were trying to knock the other player out. NFL coaches are spineless and the inmates are running the asylum.

Bengals have the marbles to fire Marvin Lewis ... Doubtful.

Only the Bungals could lose like that

Get off your high horse. Who are the "hoodlums" you refer to? This was a highly emotional game between two teams in the same division that absolutely dislike each other. You saw that of the field even before the game began.

Bengals would be crazy to fire Lewis, but who knows what they'll do? Lewis did an amazing job this year and almost beat the Steelers without his starting QB. The last two personal foul calls were a bit iffy, especially since they didn't call a clear lowered helmet to helmet hit on a Cincy receiver earlier. I would have called the one on Burfict, as it looked deliberate, but not on Pacman. That was just a small push at a coach who was baiting him. No foul there.

The Bengals are cheaper than Rutgers in paying head coaches...actually Ash is probably making more than Marvin Lewis. lmao

He's not going anywhere.

How can some of you guys blame Lewis for the behavior of some of these knuckleheads?

Knuckleheads gonna knuckle.

I blame the GM (is it Lewis?) who hired the 2 idiots.

Watching NFL live, they said the same thing.
Merrill Hodge said Lewis was warning his guys all week, but once they are between the white lines, there is nothing he can do.

Some guys are just bad apples or cancers to their teams, regardless of who the coach is.

Sorry guys but the second to last penalty was bogus. There was no helmet to helmet on that play. The replay clearly showed Burfict grazed Brown with his shoulder pads. Also, look at the replay Adam Jones never touched an official. What he did do was put his hand on Brown's shoulder pad and made a derogatory threat. Either way what a mess of a game. Both teams, specifically the Bengals play on the fringe and at times they're uncontrollable.

Is it not fair to say that that game was lost because of team culture?

This is a franchise that kept Pacman on the payroll years after he was established as one of the all-time least responsible pro athletes.

Burfict and Jones have a long history of dirt-baggery. Pacman should have been kicked out for a season after the way he stripped Amari Cooper of his helmet and pounded his head earlier in season. Burfict was fined heavy for twisting Cam Newton's ankles on purpose. All these Suhs, Burficts, Pacman's etc should be on notice and kicked out for whole seasons when they pull their stunts.

On a side note, how many teams do you have?

dumbest team ever...bunch of uncontrolled idiots running around on the field. lewis should be fired for failing to control and compose his team. Tom coughlin maybe?

Agree on both counts. Burfict is an idiot and Lewis looked lost.

That was the most astonishing defeat from the hands of victory that I have ever, ever seen. The Bengals won the game. It was over. They didn't lose with a quick fumble for a TD, it was a very slow, with many more tries to keep the win, loss. They managed to lose in an amazing sore loser way.

At the time of the Burfict draft it was 2 - Giants and Ravens. I was into Ravens because of Rice. Ravens needed a LB bad and there was talk about the Ravens taking him. He was #1 LB on Rivals (#9 overall) and went to Arizona - where he pretty much had to leave early - being even more of a mental patient then than he is now. I recall Raven's fans (who didn't watch a lot of college ball) really wanting Burfict and I was telling them they would be sorry. Now here it is the Super Bowl is wide open and Cincy could have had a shot but the Kook Bros skunked them.

I think they got Burfict for hitting a helpless receiver. It wasn't much of a hit, but was at such high speed, it looked really bad. Probably a fair call in my book. The Jones penalty was a real head scratcher. Best I can tell, it was for jabbing at the Pittsburgh coach.

But I had Cincy +2.5, so it's all good.

I hate it when people keep saying this. It's not the same rule as college. It doesn't have to be helmet-to-helmet to be a penalty. Contact to the head is enough to draw a penalty. The guy didn't "graze" the receiver's head. He hit him square in the head with his shoulder pads. It's a clear, 100% penalty. It was also infinitely stupid. No reason to even make contact with the receiver and even put it in the referee's hands in the first place.

I am a lifetime Bengals fan. I have endured two heartbreaking Super Bowl losses to SF and seven years of playoff appearances without a single win. Tonight's game was the biggest heartbreaker of them all. My ears are still ringing from my spiking blood pressure. To paraphrase the guy from Brokeback Mountain, I wish I knew how to quit them.

I thought the hit broke the receivers neck. He was knocked out cold and landed very awkwardly. They put the rule in place to keep players healthy.

Burfict should have stayed in the tunnel after the INT, Bengals would've won - Joey Porter was def. the game MVP!

That doesn't matter he was defenseless when he got hit. end of story that was a penalty. Grazed?? Yeah because grazing someone's helmet will give them a concussion.... Nice glad you cleared that up for everyone

Paceman was clearly a penalty. They had just gotten them separated and he comes in late making contact with both the coach and the official. That going to be called every time.
