Best Freshman So Far - December 11, 2024

ESPN+ article about the best freshman in MCBB so far. Says Harper is the best guard in the 2025 NBA draft, and Bailey has shown otherworldly flashes.

Best Freshman in Men's College Basketball
Really nice to see 2 out of the top 5 from Rutgers and 4 out of the top five from the big ten! Pity we won’t see them play college basketball beyond this year, but it will be great hearing the schools they are from in this year’s NBA draft.

Granted I haven’t seen much of Flagg at Duke, but if we’re just talking about on-court performance rather than draft stock, I don’t know how anyone can say that Dylan Harper isn’t the top performing freshman thus far.

Flagg - 15.9 ppg (42.9% overall, 22.2% 3-pt FG, 72.5% FTs), 9.0 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.4 bpg

Harper - 23.4 ppg (51.3% overall, 33.3% 3-pt FG, 77.8% FTs), 5.1 rpg, 4.6 apg, 0.5 bpg

Agree. Also Dylan is asked to carry much more of the overall load for the team than Flagg.

i need to see Egor Demin play

reading Penny Hardaway / Kukoc comparisons

I get the Flagg fascination, he's almost a whole year younger, that's a huge deal
Needs a lot more offensive polish, otherwise he's Andrei Kirilenko. But yeah he's so young, his potential is sky high.

Dylan is more of a complete product at this point in time. Needs a few things to work on like ball handling and shooting but is more of a sure thing.

Flagg needs to develop a shot and is a lot more raw offensively. Defensively he can be a shut down NBA defender right now.

I have been saying this for the past7 months since watching all the high school all star games with the 3 of them; Dylan was by far the best in all those games and he has been the best as a freshman by far!!

Dylan is the best freshman for sure especially when you factor in how often the ball is in his hands and how important he is to the team. Still delivering

By the nature of their rolls, Harper would seem to have the greatest value. As a lead guard he just does more on the court hence more value. That’s not a knock on Flagg and Bailey, Dylan just has more value because of the position he plays. Probably dumb to try to sort this out so early in the season

Saw those games too and agreed, so not surprised he's the best of them (and in the country), so far.

We have to remember the court has two sides though. Flagg is excellent on the defensive end, probably to a decent extent better than Dylan may be on the offensive end. They are both special.

Not even close. Dylan is almost un stoppable in the offensive end and plays defense. Maybe a tad below Flagg. Your fascination with Flagg obscures your ability to see what our Rutgers players can do. Plus not sure how much national college basketball you watch but there are 4-5 other freshman that have had a greater impact of their teams than Flagg does on his. None have a bigger impact than Dylan. None.

Don't have any fascination with Flagg whatsoever. We may be talking about different things. Dylan is the best performing freshman in the country, I agree. Dylan won't be drafted before Flagg for the reasons I state. College performance and their draft positions are different things.

Dylan will be the # 1 draft choice. We will see if your prediction comes true or mine. Dylan does his best work on the biggest of stages and when competition is ramped up. That will show throughout the year and why any GM would be crazy not to take him number 1

Flagg isn't better on the offensive end. It's not even close. Flagg is very good but Dylan is a better athlete, better ball skills and a better finisher. They both look like they can shoot and pass well.

I don't see much of a difference between the two on defense either.

Flagg is a better athlete. Dylan is the more complete player and has an NBA body. Dylan is better right now.

Flaggs ceiling is higher. Dylans floor is much much higher.

Flagg is much better defensively, its not very close and Flagg is almost as good of a distributor. Dylan is a much more polished offensive player.
