BIG recruiting - Ash mentioned

While I agree there's more HS talent in the Southeast, there's not the great difference like some make it out to be. Florida and Georgia are off the charts and everybody recruits those two states heavy - especially OSU in the BIG. BUT, when you look at Ohio, N.J., Maryland and western PA, well, those areas put out some dynamite HS talent themselves. Then factor in Michigan and somewhat Illinois, the BIG has a solid recruiting base itself.

I think local talent is much more of an issue for the B1G West than the B1G East.

No doubt ! If you look at teams like Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, they have to recruit well out of state to field a good/competitive team. Heck, the whole state of Nebraska has a population of only 1.9 million. That's why OSU has such a HUGE recruiting advantage. They basically choose who they want inside talent-rich Ohio and then go hard after the out of state recruits. Not saying the same could/should happen at Rutgers, but if Ash does as well as I think he can, the also talent-rich state of NJ could really be a huge advantage. If he could just pull in 30 to 40% of high-end recruits down the road it would really provide the basis for a solid program. He needs 2 to 3 years as turnarounds/rebuilding projects just don't happen overnight.
