Big Ten and SEC officials to meet in Nashville

Why even 3? That makes the conference championship meaningless yet again.

One conference auto bid is fine.
Guaranteed $ for conference.
2/3 of teams coming from those conferences means greater exposure & chances for winning.

Locks many of the halve nots out of contention.

This makes a lot of sense. Playing teams you are guaranteed to beat makes no sense.

The NFL is all about the $$$. What do they do? They seek parity.. they have a draft that promotes parity. They schedule promoting parity... the good play the good the bad play the bad. Guaranteed fluctuations in wins/losses.. sure.. but that's not the end of the world because of the MONEY.

The stars get protected.. the star teams get some protection. It is a show. And they all profit.

Same could be done with college football. But who will resist? Those few whose fan bases expect flirting with undefeated championship seasons every year.

Anyone know if Fox and Disney (ABC/ESPN) execs will be at these meetings? The NFL award contracts to many different networks.. including Amazon Prime like tonights games. College could do the same if presented as one product. But Fox is a part owner of BTN. This will be interesting.

People ignore this point constantly.
The elite teams 100% are fine trading losses for more money.

OSU, UM and PSU voted to add USC, Oregon and UW.

Bama, Georgia and LSU voted to add Texas and Oklahoma.

Why? Because of money.
Money outweighed potential losses.
Perhaps tbey are all delusional and think "Texas won't be a threat to me...."

If they just wanted to guarantee wins they would add UConn.

With 4 auto bids they can have multiple final week game options...

1v2 and both are in

Potentially 3v6 and 4v5 for final 2 spots .. addresses uneven schedules. And more $$$ for the league.

Big12 and ACC would only have 2 auto bids...

I think we are much better off in teh Big Ten with Big Ten money.. but at the same time, we have to recognize that the problems Rutgers has.. rather unique problems in terms of most flagship state schools that play football at teh top level.. they did not go away. Add to that that all these changes re: NIL and schollie limits and even the CoVid 6th year are designed to make the strong stronger.

TV loves having recognizable brand names with some national following at the forefront.. filling out the Top 25 and getting the primetime advertising slots where they will garner big ratings and big ad rates. This is why they pay big money for conference TV contracts and that there is a weekly pecking order for who gets what games and when those games will be played. This is why TV networks have led the way in promoting these pay-the-player movements. They know it would help the haves over the have-nots.

Can we, one day, become one of the "haves"? yes... since we are in the Big Ten in a big market.. it is possible. But it will take a good plan and take a long time and will need 2-3 lucky/great seasons in a row. And that is the sticky point right now.

There is another way.. spend like one of the "haves". We might be able to recruit area businesses to support Rutgers football the way businesses in those big-name program states support their schools. People think it is fans supporting.. but those fans have businesses and that's how they do it. But even there.. we have a 55K stadium and infrastructure that gets stressed filling that up. The "haves" have nearly double that. More room to get good seats to the businesses they lobby for support.

Bottom line: it will take a lot of money just to be able to attract the money we need to compete at the highest level.
