Big Ten Media...pathetic

BTN did a piece a few weeks ago. They and Dienhart have been very kind to us. What would you have them do. Bow down and have them do a full history. BTW Source can fill you in but RU was doormant for a bunch of years after the get go. Plus 10 guys meeting in a tavern called the Sign of the Red Lion constituted a college. Sign me up for the 6 year plan. Yes, I know, dumb, fat and stupid is no way to go through life, Dean Wormer. After we won the first game in 1869 Princeton won like the next 80 years. I love our history but always hope people skip over a lot of it. Always more pleasant. Us RU guys will never admit it but Queen"s College was renamed to Rutgers for a shitty bell and $250 bucks.

I am a big McCormick dad and son fan and have read a bunch about RU history. But between you and us girls chill out.

Has nothing to do with football. Maybe I should've put an OT on the thread title...but not one tweet, post, picture or shout out for us. 250 years is a huge deal and I expected a little bit of respect from them.

What about this.

Point is after some economics major tries to figure out the present day value of the bell plus $250 figuring in inflation and yada yada. Col. Henry has a state U named after him and Phil Knight after giving tens of millions of dollars gets shit for his input on uniforms. You can have Henry I'll take Phil and the shitty uniforms.

Oh I'd even settle for Plank University (Maryland/Under Armour).

well I disagree. If you don't expect respect (and yes, earn it) you'll never get it. The B1G should be leveraging all significant member equity every chance they get and this noteworthy achievement by Rutgers should make the list and be something they put some focus on as value added to the league by one of the newest members.

Wouldn't it be cool it every team had a 250 sticker on their helmets tomorrow? Or every school played one of our songs during halftime show? (or even re-game?)... maybe even Happy Birthday R-U :D ? (yeah, corny part)

yeah, I admit it. I flew my Rutgers Flag out by the street yesterday. Sorry. Proud of my education and university's milestone that only 7 other schools have achieved.

PS..I don't that that we were dis-respected as much as I think we should have gotten some more press from them. Guess we'll see how they treat UM and Indy's 200th later this year.

My guess would be that if Rutgers funded and produced a professional 1 hour documentary on its 250th.. that BTN would find a way to use it. They are largely a sports network.. and I would argue that they should consider branching out to an educational channel as well. BTN and BTN2.. where BTN2 could have sports where live events overlap.. and for non-live stuff so educational material produced by Big Ten members.

Again I have to defend this guy. Without Henry Rutgers $5,000 bond gift to reopen Queen's college it would have stayed shut forever. That's it, no Queen's college, no Rutgers University, it's eventually a housing development.

Although he did kind of dick us in his will, it was the trustees who changed the name hoping he would bestow them with money. He didn't put any stipulations on the money. Can't really fault the guy, he already gave them what amounted to a small fortune back in those days and saved the college.

Cupcake culture. Do anything and someone will figure out why its offensive and to whom. Our kids are growing up to be a bunch of crybabies and sissy pusses. Ooops!! didn't mean to offend the sissy pusses. So sorry.

An old alumni told me that Rutgers almost became Duke University as the Duke family offered a lot of money to Rutgers but those in charge didn't want to change the Rutgers name.

I believe this is true. The father of Doris Duke was enamored with this area along the Raritan and wanted an estate similar to those in N. Carolina. Which is why he built Duke Farms then his daughter Doris took over.(mother and daughter did not get along) However without Dear old Henry there wouldn't have been a school to potentially rename.

It's a pretty interesting story and I'm surprised it isn't that well known. They offered millions to Rutgers at a time when Rutgers could have used the money. Rutgers could have been an elite Private school probably similar to the caliber Duke is now.

Did you mean to say dormant or doormat ? Both apply.

Not Rutgers. Princeton was the school that was supposedly courted by the Duke family. But this may be myth. See: https://library.duke.edu/rubenstein/uarchives/history/articles/princeton
HaHa[laughing] A Duke University article trying to dispel the myth. Now that's what I call a biased view point. No way in hell do they want to be viewed as 2nd fiddle. Problem is they just might have been. James Duke didn't even want to live in N. Carolina, he just needed to grow his tobacco there as it's the best place for it to thrive.

Do you think we could get the cheer right?

D!!!
U!!!

D!!!
U!!!

What's that spell?
Duh!

As stated; I don't think any conference celebrates a university's anniversary. Never heard that in any other league. Never heard them celebrating that when I lived in SEC land (Georgia est. in 1785 and Tennessee 1794). I don't think you'll hear a damned word about Michigan's 200th in a few months or Indiana's in a few years either). I guess they'd rather cover sporting or academic achievements???
