The blackout will be great, I get it.
But here's a question, wouldn't a RED stadium against the night sky be cool as hell coupled with the all black uniforms?

Agree that a blackout looks better during the day but this is what the team chose. Also, if we had it during a day game our fans would complain black is to hot in the sun.

I would think all they care are about is they're wearing black…no?

Imo blackouts are still very cool at night. Sat next to some Michigan folks last year and they marveled the entire game at the blacked out student section.

I'm with Zap...I like the stadium in "RED" much better at night and actually think a good blackout looks better during the day, but to each his/her own!

BTW - we need to bring back the "Wear Red To The Game" mantra. Our crowd is starting to slip just a tad.

I would love to see the red and black alternating colors in each section, that has become so popular now in college stadiums. Don't know if RU can pull it off though, needs a lot of planning and we have a lot of stubborn fans who don't like to be told what color to wear to the games. You will see them saturday night wearing their yellow shirts, etc or other college shirts to an RU game. They will definitely not be wearing black that is for certain!!

Well we all know that formal black tie affairs are always held at night.

Yeah, GOOD LUCK getting our fans to pull that off, especially when emotionally "down." I agree - it would look GREAT at HPSS, no doubt, but it takes a loyal-ass fan base (and one that pays attention...) to pull it off well. You should check out the "tiger stripes" that Mizzou has done they're ridiculous1

I love the blackouts as well, the whole concept of dressing like the team is cool. I'm speaking from a visual perspective only...the Red and Black mixed together at night would look extraordinary on TV.
From a visual, you are correct. I think it would be really neat looking!

blackout looks great on tv at night. No issues here. Except that my entire group of like 8+ is out for this game. Might go alone

I was at the PSU game when they did this against Rutgers. We purchased our tickets through PSU and I can tell you we received no fewer than 6 emails reminding us it was the stripe out game and telling us what color shirt we should be wearing. Save for a random person here or there and the RU fans everyone seemed to be wearing their appointed color and every single student had white on along with white pom poms. It was very impressive.

I thought this happened once some years ago (during the Schiano era). The team came out of the locker room wearing black uniforms, but it wasn't announced in advance so the stadium was filled with red. I can't remember if it was a night game, though.

I'm a redhead with no soul and red doesn't go well with my hair... Am I excused? Lol

Guys - there have been quite a few games, now, where we wore black uni's but it wasn't a "blackout" game. Also, we've had "student section blackouts," only, on top of full-stadium ones. Anyway, check out Mizzou:

That never happened. That graphic is a concept. Look at the watermark under #TigerStripeFaurot.
It's @football_concepts.

We did it once in basketball with lower level of the RAC receiving alternate white and red t-shirts for the Notre Dame game. It may be tough to do it on a large scale for football.

I think for the most part that black-outs, stripe-outs and all that are a bunch of crap that no one gives a damn about past kickoff, but that scene at Faurot Field is pretty incredible. It's quite an effect. But really, I'm all for "Wear [your school color here] to the Game!"

I remember the first Rutgers blackout in 2007 when #25 RU played #6 WV. The uniforms were going to "psyche-up" the players and the crowd. Then RU got thrashed 31-3 and GS said he would never use blackout gimmick again. Works for selling stuff but that's about it, Ohio's black unis look like 50 other teams. Nike has been clever in obliterating other teams logos and looks and replacing them with Nike Nation junk

I am still wondering if wearing black, at night, and walking home after the game or around the lots while people leave is a bad combination.

People wearing all black should consider themselves invisible to traffic and act accordingly.

Not 100% sure, but believe this was against WVU in one of the many rain/snow/sleet games against them. Half the crowd left early and the other half had on, you guessed it, yellow ponchos. Needless to say, we got killed.

One year (maybe that same year?) we wore black pants and black helmet with a white R with our traditional white jersey which, I think, was a beautiful look and a perfect mix of uniforms.
