When Schiano left in 2012 we had a legit shot at getting Petrino and several on this site including me liked the idea. Petrino was a known commodity and a proven winner. I believed that we had a legit shot at prying Petrino away from Western Kentucky. I knew that Bobby Petrino would have taken us to a BE Championship and by now we would be threatening to play in a Rose Bowl. Today Louisville is ranked #7 in the country and we're losing to a 1-4 Illinois team.

Doesn't Louisville have lousy academics also, they probably get a number of JUCO players.

Do we get a lot of Juco players? no and I bet Louisville does. We don't take the physical ed credits.

Or allow our coaches to bang people who works in the AD. Plus the PR of the motorcycle accident was national news at an SEC school (where anything short of a murder/suicide would rank as par for the course), i could only imagine how the local press would have killed us for that incident.

it's only a matter of time before his character shows and he self destructs.

Unless he fights for ISIS then I dont care. Go ahead and fire away holier than art thou crowd. I`m tired of waiting. And yes, i do still like Ash (alot).

Petrino would never have been hired by RU, ZERO chance. I forget how many controversies that garnered national/local attention were we in at that point , someone remind me.

You should have applied for the AD job. You sound really smart.

Schiano left 2011. Petrino was still at Arkansas. petrino didn't get fired until after Flood was hired. Outside of that its a good story though. Making fiction probably helps get added likes from this knowledgable crowd

Reality is gentlemen you're putting down a guy who has his team ranked #7.

Cool story, bro.

Maybe Notre Dame or Oregon or USC or LSU or Texas will hire him after this season.
I'm sure those schools are smarter than us and can pay a hell of a lot more.

He was still Arkansas in 2012. Now 2013 we could have got him

A lot of programs out there wish he was there coach but are too afraid to say it.

The difference between him and a lot of other coaches is that he got caught. There, I said it.

Nobody has ever questioned the guy is a football genius. The probably is your timeline is BS as is your story. His name came up in the boards when initial Flood rumors started which was POST mike a Rice and that is why people poo pooed it.

Meanwhile we have a small contingent of fans that want Fleck who has reportedly laid more pipe than Michigan plumbing

Ok I was off by a year or so. But who cares he was available. All I remember is the panic and push back by our fanbase. I guess we made the right decision by holding onto Flood until 2015 and now hiring Ash who I'm sure will turn around our program by 2019.

And some programs/fan bases support their coaches even AFTER they get caught. Can you think of one?

Are you high? He wasn't available he was the coach at Arkansas. He might have been available when we weren't looking for a coach which is a small snag in your story. Oh, and if we were searching he was available POST rice. I don't get how people don't see that.

It kinda matters that he wasn't available when we were looking. Unless you also want to criticize admin for missing out on Knute Rockne and Bear Bryant.

Oh, what could have been...

Hey, never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

"The most fundamental aspect of my premise is wrong, but I'm sticking with my argument."

We had our own scandal-filled coach but in typical RU he wasn't even good at coaching.

Petrino was never coming to any school in the Northeast...
he's always going to be in a southern school that knows the importance of football over everything else.

edited .... when sober....

He also now knows he needs to stay at a private university - not any state university - for the additional secrecy and protection private school administrations can provide....
Louisville is a public school.

My bad....

...if only there was some sort of easily accessible electronic reference or referral system I could access from my computer simply by putting in a search term or phrase before I spewed this stuff on a message board.

oh well, maybe they'll invent something like that some day...
