Brent Musberger Is Retiring!

I don't like Musberger due to the frequent mistakes he makes during a broadcast.

I hate listening to his games because he always makes wrong assumptions and gets excited by unimportant plays.

Example... Deep drive and a HOMERUN!!!!! Check that, it was a pop out to shallow center field.
Example... Back to pass.... MIDDLE!!!!!!!!!!! and a gain of 6 yards bringing up 3rd and 2.

Speaking of, why does he scream, "MIDDLE!!!!!!!" on any pass play between the hashes?

This doesn't include his fascinations with individuals. Whether it be creepy comments about females in the stands that are 60 years younger than him or silly nicknames (Honey Badger?).

It's not easy to be right, let alone stop ones self from checking out babes and corny nicknames, when hammered!

Him and Verne had great voices that were synonymous with College FB. Obviously as you age you get worse at your job and make mistakes.

Same goes for Vitale and CBB
Same goes for that Yankees radio announcer
Same goes for NBA with Albert

See I never thought he had a "great" voice, to be honest, and couldn't understand as a teen WHY he moved up the ranks so quickly. Verne? Yup. Keith Jackson? Yup. Vitale, Marv, etc? Yup!

He stuck around 15 years too long, in my opinion. Ruined every recent telecast he did for the last decade. He had a heyday, but it ended quite some time ago.

Yeah, this is why people don't like him. Maybe he used to be good, but now he's like a horny old man in constant crisis mode.

one of my favorites. Who can forget AJ McCarron's girlfriend

+1
Thought he had a goofy voice and not too knowledgeable on the sports he covered. Can't put him and Keith Jackson in same sentence. Changing of the guard in college football for sure - Danielson, Fowler/Herbie combo, Nessler are all pretty good IMO.

To me, Musberger was still one of the best. Maybe not as good as he used to be, but better then almost everybody still at ESPN, better than Gus Johnson, etc.

Whoa Nellie!

Wow! This Board should be ashamed! As Rutgers fans, we should always remember--and acknowledge--the announcers for the 2005 Rutgers ASU bowl--Brent and Gary Danielson! They did a super job on the game! Brent was great in his day. A fine career.

Gary was great. You could tell he really liked the play of Brian Leonard.

I didn't even remember it was Brent Musburger until you reminded us. I bet many would say the same. So that should tell you something.

Brent was great. "You're looking live "....
Cmon that was cool as hell
From the studio, yes.

From the booth, not so much.

Annoying America since the 1970s. Jimmy the Greek should have socked him again.
I will never forget the quote in the sporting news about jimmy the Greek. "He wasn't a bad guy he once punched Brett Musberger, and he made phyliss George cry"
Like many here noted, I think Brent Musberger did a great job calling the insight Bowl . He not only called a good game, but he also highlighted the potential of Rutgers ( on national television) . Awesome job, I wish him well.

The guy should of been on the Olympics beat with his fixation in things beyond the playing field
He was obsessed with him!!! Whenever Mathieu came back on the field, Brent would say something like, "look there at the bottom of your screen, folks.....Honey Badger!!!"
Really it was approaching Merv Albert level cringe worthy-ness.

I will miss Brent. Was actually sad when he was "demoted" to the SEC Network a couple years ago as I rarely heard his broadcasts.

Brent did some Rutgers games through the years, right? I seem to recall he may have done the Insight Bowl back in 2005?

Dave nailed it. A gaseous windbag who always thinks he knows it all (after a few tips at pre-production meetings with the teams).

Will definitely miss him. His voice just seems to be always around the big games.

Keith Jackson though, he is the king of voices. That guy could say "Hello" in that voice and win.
