Bret Bielema wants a B1G SEC challenge like basketball

I bet you wouldn't! But, not so fast my friend!

I was wondering if anyone would start a thread on this! Basically, rank the 14 teams in the B1G and the SEC and have them play each other during SEC versus B1G week. #3 versus #3, # 6 versus #6, etc. based on where they rank at the start of the season.

Personally I like it. Maybe no where near perfect, but beats the hell out of where we are now IMO.

What for you think?

Stupid idea. In football you need to schedule easy games OOC or you will be at a disadvantage when you consider W L for the playoffs.

And all on-campus games, not neutral sites. And later in the season so the outcome affects playoff picture.

Hey! Our coach is all for it!

You can't accuse us of avoiding the B1G if we are willing to come play you! Isn't that what you wanted?

I cannot believe the ones who have responded so far are such pussies!

I think it would be a great idea! It would DOMINATE the weekend! Thursday night #14 versus # 14. Friday night #'s 12 and 13 versus # 12 and 13. Saturday, 11 versus 11, 10 versus 10, etc.

It WILL DOMINATE the TV ratings! The country will go bonkers over it! Nobody else will get coverage! ESPN will pay millions to broadcast it! Personally, I think it is freaking brilliant from a marketing standpoint!

And, it will cause the other conferences to want to follow this lead. Being first has its privileges!

The money coming in to the B1G will be significant! What would you do with that money?

Apparently Rutgers figured out a way to get invited to a P5 conference and NOT get paid so I assume we wouldn't get anything for this either. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Nah. This is simply brilliant from a PR perspective. Think about it for a moment. B1G versus SEC? It is all about validation! I love it!

It will DOMINATE the TV ratings! There will be ZERO room for any other conference to be on TV. The money alone will make it all worthwhile!

It will be B1G on TV all weekend. The payout will be HUGE!

Y'all need to get behind this idea. You want a coach worth 3-4 million a year? You need money? This is a good solution! SG wants this to happen!

We won't be allowed to spend it on a coach.

I am all for it, but Saban would drink a glass of his own sh*t before he would let bama come to the shoe in november.

Oh Bullshit. Get over your pompous ass! Saban is NOT afraid of OSU or anyone else. Really, I cannot believe how belicose so many of you are. The SEC does not worry about the B1G. Come play us in late August or early September. Feel what 120 degrees at playing field feels like.

We wont worry what 25 degrees feels like in November. most of our houses had no heat anyway when we were growing up. We can handle it.

Unless you are afraid of the SEC versus B1G challenge? Are you afraid?

Bullshit you and the other SEC fans are the ones who need to get over yourself.

and it isn't being afraid of a paticular team, they are scared to make their way up north when the weather turns AND afraid to schedule a real team late in the season thats why they never do it. Enjoy this chickenshit saturday schedule down there.

Arkansas would be the exception because Bert is crazy like that but you will not see bama, florida, tennesee, and others come this way.

I would love this kind of challenge I have no worry about any team from the SEC but you won't ever get the coaches down there to give up their FCS teams.

It doesn't affect us. It would affect Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama and Florida. ND is already trying to sneak in with their weak schedule and this only helps them, P12, ACC and BIg 12.

I am all for it, great majority of Buckeye fans on the message baords are for it. Won't happen becuase of polotics

Ok, how about one of you stat guys look up how often SEC teams come north for OOC games?

The idea sounds so good that I bet the other conference do it while either the b!G or the SEC drags its heels.

What's the downside?

BTW -- hasn't the Championship Committee already stated they consider strength of schedule when deciding the final 4?

OOC games are usually schedule in the beginning of the year but I think it would be great if they did it in November. Bring the possibility of the elements into play. SEC teams usually have their "cupcake" game break around now no? So move that up and put a B10 game at the back and if the B10 agreed I'd like it.

The reason it is a great idea is the same reason it won't happen. The competition and atmosphere would be great but why would the top 2 conferences want to knock each other out of the playoff? If 1 conference's top 3-4 teams swept the other, it would change the playoff seedings materially. Too risky.

Don't be silly, Alabama doesn't have any room for this in November, they already have Charleston Southern, Chattanooga, Western Kentucky, and Georgia State scheduled in the upcoming years.

And LSU's schedule is all filled up next year with Wisconsin, and then Jacksonville State, Southern Mississippi, and South Alabama. This year they were really stacked up though, with McNeese State, Syracuse, Eastern Michigan, and Western Kentucky.

Since Florida seems to be the most p*ssy about their OOC schedule--they rarely even play outside the state of Florida, even the Carolinas is too arctic for them--I'm guessing they would not go for this more than other teams.

The FCS teams don't want to give up playing the Power 5 teams either. Those games are the MONEY games that can make or break a FCS's athletic department budget.
