Bryce Petty

are you just saying this in JEST?

He sees the field like a pro. He throws like a pro. He has no significant out-of-football detrimental issues. Neither of the top 2 QBs have all 3 qualities.

was watching the combine on tv the other day. was not impressed by this throws. accuracy was poor. winston definitely had far better throws. you may be right old timer, but i didn't see it in the combine.

As an old timer, I don't put any faith in the combine. It is artificial in my view. I watched him play a number of times on TV this year, and he impressed. Even in his loss to Mich State, his talent was evident. I guess time will tell.

No he's not (imo). And even if he was, this is an incredibly weak QB draft. Being the "best" QB in this draft isn't saying anything. I'm not a Jets fan but wasting a pick on a QB this year would be pointless. No one is truly NFL starter caliber (on the field) except Winston, and he's obviously not on you guys' radar. Better off signing a FA QB and have him compete with Geno and use your picks on something useful.

There are so many bad QBs in the NFL it is ridiculous. Back in my era of the 70s and 80s most QBs in the NFL were GOOD. That's why giving young kids, generally speaking--and I'm not talking about draft round here--makes sense. Not recycled bad to mediocre QBs.

I would take Winston before any of the other QBs in this draft. I don't think the Jets should take any of the QBs in the 1st round. They would do better to try to trade for a solid backup QB who could start down the road (Glennon, Cousins). Don't think there are any special QBs in this draft. The Jets should take either a WR (Cooper or White) ...they may take one of the DE/OLB types also in the 1st round.

Winston is an arrest waiting to happen. I wouldn't touch that guy with a draft pick in the first five rounds. Only a matter of time before he does something else really stupid.

Yes. But back in the old days a QB was not expected to show up and start in his rookie year. It is a totally different game today. Everybody wants instant oatmeal. These kids are given no time to learn from an established QB as a backup for a couple of years. If they can't start out of the gate and succeed in their first year or two they are sent to the scrap heap. I bet some of the great QBs of yesteryear would have failed this type of test.

Both are talented, but both have questions.

Nova needs to go to the Giants. The need a backup to Eli that can match him interception for interception!

LOL ! That is CRUEL ! PS- you do know what Nova's TD- Int ratio was this year , right?

There is nobody that rates Petty any better than a 3rd rounder. Most have him lower than that. So the Jets should take him in the 1st? There is nobody even close to the skill level of Winston. The Jets would be stupid to waist a 1st on a kid that will be there at least till the 3rd.

Also, he is a system QB at Baylor. He is from a 1 read system.. He is not NFL ready.

Mike Mayock on Petty and Hundley:

"When you watch them within the framework of their offense, they've got a long way to go to become pocket quarterbacks. They don't throw with anticipation. If the first look isn't there, both of them are hesitant and indecisive which leads to sacks and other problems," Mayock said. "You want to say you're going to need at least a redshirt year as a second or third round draft pick, but what they need is live snaps, not seven-on-seven snaps in practice."

He's never taken a snap under center.
