BTN ranks all 56 conference games

OUT OF 56 games we come in at 55 & 52 & 49 & 46 & 43>>> NO Respect

55. Rutgers at Indiana, Oct. 17. The Hoosiers fell at Rutgers last season, 45-23, despite getting 307 yards rushing from Tevin Coleman. This will be the Scarlet Knights’ first trip to Bloomington. –

52. Rutgers at Wisconsin, Oct. 31. Wisconsin whacked Rutgers last year, taking a 37-0 decision in Piscataway fueled by 298 yards rushing. This will be the Scarlet Knights’ first trip to Madison

49. Ohio State at Rutgers, Oct. 24. Rutgers lost 56-17 last year at Ohio State. Enough said.

46. Nebraska at Rutgers, Nov. 14. Nebraska whipped Rutgers, 42-24, last year in Lincoln. Now, the Cornhuskers will make their first trip to Piscataway, New Jersey. Nebraska did play “at” Rutgers in 1920, but it was in New York City, as the Huskers prevailed, 28-0.

43. Michigan State at Rutgers, Oct. 10. Michigan State won 45-3 last year vs. Rutgers in East Lansing. This will be the Spartans’ first trip to RU since 2004, when it lost 19-14

Got to win some key games then. Earn that respect. And those ranking #s will improve, next year.

Our performance against these teams last year didn't exactly do us any favors for lists such as this one.

the only strange thing is I would expect Maryland to be ranked similar to Rutgers.
The lowest ranked Maryland game is 37 vs Indiana. (Rutgers vs Indiana is #55)
Does this mean that Maryland vs Indiana game is more important than the RU vs Indiana?
I think it means that the Maryland vs Indiana game will be more competitive than the RU vs Indiana
Lets face it, the only teams that care about these games are Maryland, Indiana and Rutgers fans.

Note, the Rutgers vs Michigan game is rated at 36 (1 spot above Maryland vs Indiana)> The fact that this will be a revenge game for Michigan and Jim Harbaugh is the coach, this might be the second most anticipated game for Rutgers (other than possibly Penn State).

The weird thing is that Maryland FB ALWAYS gets more respect than RU from those in the big ten even though our FB team was slightly stronger than theirs last year and has been consistently stronger for an entire decade prior. We should be much stronger than Maryland's team this year as well

We seem to be lumped together with Indiana and Purdue.:flushed: Why the respect for Maryland?

Indeed. Given last year's results it's somewhat astonishing to see Maryland vs. Ohio State ranked higher than Rutgers vs. Michigan. Seems pretty obvious which will be the closer and better game. In fact, Rutgers vs. Michigan should be somewhere between 15 and 25.

I don't have an issue with these rankings. They are rating interest in the games for the whole B10 population. We need to beat teams other than Maryland and Indiana to move up.

Are any of these games late starts/televised? OSU gave Penn State one of the worst beatings I can remember in Columbus in 2013. That didn't mean anything when they rolled into Beaver Stadium for an 8:00 ABC game in 2014. I find it odd that they didn't give you any credit for the games that you have happening in your own house but then totally flipped the script when it comes to you going to Michigan.

Keep in mind that this dude probably had Penn State going 2-11 or 3-10 in 2012 despite our defense being absolutely stacked.

Win the games we need to win, and the respect will come. Until we are consistently competitive over a few years in the conference, we'll be at the bottom of lists like this.

Agreed. Strange. Maryland got killed in the big games just like Rutgers. They beat PSU by a point and we barely lost. We beat Maryland at Maryland. Just how are Maryland games better than Rutgers games vs the same opponents? Makes zero sense.

And how can any game featuring a bowl team, Rutgers, be worse than a game between two non-bowl teams? Again.. makes no sense.

I agree that we had some real stinkers last year that I wish I did not see.. but some of this thing just supports the other thread about the "most disrespected" teams.

You forgot

36. Rutgers at Michigan, Nov. 7. This will be Rutgers’ first trip to Michigan, which won in Piscataway last season 26-24.

This is worded badly. The way this is written you could easily think Michigan won last season.

Let's face it: People are just not excited to see a Rutgers game pop up on the schedule. Outside of our market, we're still not thought of the same way as other, similar teams despite some of the good things we have accomplished. Maybe it's the name, maybe it's the memory of our brutal years, maybe it's the lingering thought that we got a Power 5 invite based on our location and not anything we did. But you know what? So what? Who the hell cares? Win some games, play more competitive football when you don't, get to a mid-level bowl game and win it, and WE'RE happy. Then build toward the next step.

The last thing I worry about is whether the average fan in Iowa or Illinois is looking forward to the Rutgers-Nebraska game.

I would actually think that teams from the west will look forward to you visiting and them visiting you in return.

while RU beat Maryland, do people forget that they finished ahead of RU in the standings?

also Maryland has a higher name cache from years of being fairly relevant in basketball and occasionally in football. RU is just living off of 10 years of football and an abominable basketball program.

these rankings are fairly accurate

Maryland came from a much better place (ACC) than we did. They are also a lot better in more sports than RU. It's perception.

It really had nothing to do with other sports or your last conference. This was about your performance in the B1G this past season.

The list is about football, not sure what other sports have to do with it.

Number 55 of 56, Rutgers at Indiana. Hmmm, the winner of this game likely goes bowling, the loser probably doesn't. Nothing of interest or importance here for either program or the conference. Good call!

So- OSU beat Maryland in Maryland worse then they beat us in Columbus. OSU now comes to Rutgers and MAryland has to travel to the shoe and their game is ranked above ours? How the hell does that make sense.

These types of things (along with taunting, chauvainistic chest-beating, etc., berating our opponents) are irrelevant background noise. All that counts is winning on the field when it matters, and consistently. As we learned in the brief glorious window after 'Ville 2006, once we do that, everything else positive will follow.

This is a truism. We will change how we are perceived when we beat osu at our house this fall! [cheers]

The rankings are probably about national tv interest. Outside of the local markets for the teams involved we really don't have any games that the rest of the viewership cares about.

On the other hand:
Ohio St vs Michigan or Ohio St vs Penn St gets eyeballs throughout the country.

Nebraska vs Mich St should also be a game that garners some national interest since it is the 10th game of the season and can easily have teams that are 8-2, 9-1, or even 10-0.

Nobody is arguing about the 3 games you point out. I think the point we (or at least I) are making is that there might be a wee bit more interest in the RU - Michigan rematch than the Nebraska - Illinois, Illinois - Minnesota and Maryland - OSU games that are all ranked higher.

We are Rutgers, the only way to get respect is to WIN! The perception is what kills us, we are the new kids from a crappy conference. But who cares which games they think are important. The list will change after the first week.

It's an arbitrary ranking. That being said didn't we do quite well with ratings on BTN last season? if so, someone must care about our games.

Rutgers-OSU is an 8 P.M. ABC game and will probably be the biggest ticket in RU football history. Granted, we will still be ~20 point underdogs so it's not exactly riveting television. Either way, this list is way too quirky to take to heart. I was certainly more entertained by RU-Maryland than RU-OSU last year, but I wouldn't argue with someone who says they would rather watch the best team in the country thump someone than two mediocre teams play.

Don't know what all the fuss is about. We are new to the B1G, we have never won anything of importance, we have never played in a meaningful bowl game, we have a no-name coach, we got decimated against the power teams in the B1G last year, we have only rarely been ranked in the top 25, we have a small stadium by comparison to our peers, we are not good enough for the top recruits in our state, we do not have a highly ranked recruiting class, we are rarely mentioned in a favorable way outside of BTN, we have no pre-season all-Americans, I could keep going but my fingers are tiring. Outside of our enthusiastic fan base why would anyone else in the country care a hoot about RU football? It's time to change that perception and build a national name for ourselves. Kick the living snot out of a couple of traditional B1G programs and people will develop an interest in RU football. Until then, Yawn!

Why must Rutgers fan away put down our own team? Enough with the pity crap. Walk with you chin up and other will start to respect you. Then you take it from them.:boxing:

Most don't respect Rutgers because they see Rutgers fans mocking itself.
