One positive thing I saw was the play of Bullock. He’s definitely a bull and is aggressive, and also seems to have a nice shooting touch. I’d play him more. He needs to lose some weight, but not too much as that is part of his game.

Why he got zero minutes until Mike went down is a mystery. But a team so in need of scoring is going to need minutes from Matt—perhaps 15+ If EO is down.

I’ve been saying since the first open practice last year that he was the most out of shape Rutgers player in my lifetime and that he would never contribute to this team. The fact that he is on this team and using a scholarship is inexcusable. This is not a Big Ten player and it is a pathetic state of affairs that anyone considers him a reasonable option.

Some of been saying this since Day 1

On this team, there's no reason why he should be glued to the bench..

I also like what I see from Bullock, especially compared to Souf. But, my understanding is that he was "glued to the bench" because he could not pass the fitness test required of ALL players on the team. That suggests a lack of dedication that should not be rewarded with playing time. A coach needs to enforce the rules. Of course, now there's no choice but to play him. Hopefully he makes the most of the opportunity and also gets himself into shape for the first time since arriving on the banks.

In addition to his obvious lack of conditioning, though Bullock did make several nice shots in the Illinois game, I noticed 2 other things:

1) He loves to shoot ... which by itself is not a big issue ... but he essentially ONLY shoots - never passes or moves the ball around.

2) He has zero lateral defensive capability ... and I mean zero. He does have some strength, defensively - and tries. But any player with any lateral quickness goes right around him.

In re versus Mensah: First, they play different positions, and one does not play instead o the other, and Second, Mensah has clearly shown better play the last few games, to become almost serviceable. He still cannot shoot at all, but his defense has been much improved, and he has not had his pocket picked every time he comes up court (I know, I know ... a low hurdle to measure improvement, LOL!). My point is that Mensah has really reduced his negatives in the last couple of weeks.

Bullock needs to hold up his end of the bargain and get in shape if he is going to use a up a scholarship. It's not fair to anyone inolved.

Lloyd Moore says hello to this thread.
Lloyd Moore was Thiam compared to Bullock and he was 6-9 and a Center. And he also was a high school all American with real offers. He’d also be starting at center on this team right now if he were here.

Souf should only be in as a defensive role player and a facilitator of the offensive scheme. But certainly not a scorer. Typically I would be ok with a guy driving to the hole, but Souf has an uncanny ability to give the charge or place the ball politely into a defenders hands.

As for Bullock, idk guys, he may be more confusing than Mensah! The conditioning issue aside... wait... nope that is the issue.

Don’t know why he swelled up so severely at Rutgers. Check out his Senior year tape at Rosell Catholic. He’s like a gazelle!

Matt can hoop and contribute. He just needs to get in shape!

I like the underdog as well.this bullock obsession is very interesting. I expect him to score at least 14 ppl next year!

Omg you must have never seen Rashod Kent! A stud, stud, athlete. I believe he is about 3rd all time in steals at RU. Great shot blocker and rebounder. Averaged more than 10 boards a game one year.
That is one really, really off base comparison.
I want to give you 10 likes. Really thought he would make it as a NFL TE. Bullock belongs in the College Ave gym. I’ve seen and played against better competition in that gym.

Kent is #1 all time shooting % at RU, #3 in steals and #4 in rebounds. That’s an amazing combination. Also second team all Big East one year. Matt Bullock? I don’t think so.

He brings offense something that is badly missing
He is not afraid to put it up

Rashod Kent would be the center on this team down the stretch and more than holding his own against the B1G 4/5s. To even put his name in this discussion is bizarre. $$$$

I meant body type not style of play. Rashod was 6’6” 275 and Matt is 6’4” 240. If Matt hits the gym more he could turn that fat into muscle too.

Moore had skills. Great scorer. In better shape too. Heck, droopy-drawers Lamareiux was in better shape than 13.

I am a bit sad that things are as they are right now. This team has played hard but their paper-think depth has been revealed and destroyed and the team just cannot function right now. I have great empathy for them and hope they just keep playing hard. The need to do it for personal pride and not break down on team defense.

Not sure Bullock is as tall as 6'4" ... and probably heavier than 240. And will never ever be as athletic as Kent.

While you might have meant just a pure body type comparison, when you make the comparison between 2 players who bear no resemblance to each other in any way except they are bulky bodies, that is like comparing 2 players solely because they are white (which often happens in sports comparisons by fans).

I get he’s out of shape, but I think people should think about this a little more. Isn’t it possible that as a freshman he saw nearly unlimited dining hall food, put on some weight fast, and then after getting in the dog house for it didn’t see an opportunity to play and lost motivation? I know sports are “next man up” and bench guys should stay ready, but that’s not always easy for former all state guys, or any 18 year old really.

Now that he’s basically guaranteed minutes the rest of the way, I wouldn’t be shocked if that snapped him out of that funk and motivates him to hit the gym. His size and body type may not be ideal, by even at his current condition, he seems to be able to get a decent look off easier than most of our players. Let this next month be an audition to see his work ethic when promised a chance at some PT.

Per sk.com, Matt is 6-4, 260 (and was last year, too, per archived pages). On his recruiting profiles, he was 6-4, 240... so, he put on 20 lbs before his freshman year.

Ah, Lloyd Moore. I still remember the taunts from the student section when he'd frequently fumble an entry pass to him into the low post. "If it was a cheeseburger you'd catch it!"

No comp to rashod

Even as a frosh, Kent was athletic as hell.

He also made a major commitment to S&C and showed up lean and mean for his soph year.....

Lol, Kent was never "lean". But he was very quick.

I'm also not sure Kent ever made a single basket that wasn't a layup or dunk. No jumps shots - ever.

And I recall a free throw he attempted that slammed off the backboard to the left of the rim - on the fly.

He had a disgusted look on his face and his teammates were struggling to suppress laughter. The broadcasters didn't attempt to suppress their amusement.

Kent was great around the rim. 6 ft out was a completely different story. If he can make FTs and make 10-15 footers, he would be in the NBA. But he was much worst than Shaq at the FT line. I remember other teams would try the hack a Shaq strategy on Kent.
