Bullock

Kent was one of the most agile and light-footed players for his size that I remember. A little like Barkley but not nearly as skilled. He really couln't shoot outisde of 5 feet but he could jump and no one could keep him off the boards.

He's the guy who shows up for the first time at a pickup game, gets picked last, and then dominates the game.

Llloyd Moore played when I was a student at RU (I know, I'm old). Some fans "affectionately" called him "Load Moore". He was skilled, bigger than Kent and could shoot. Unlike Kent, however, his weight was a detriment. I don't remember him being much of a rebounder either.

Bullock is like neither player.

Then play him for 1-2 minutes ,,,,sub out (Nathan....Mensah, anyone) ...then back in for 2-3 minutes.

Build up his endurance...while losing the excess.

D1 athlete on full scholarship. This is an insult to the rest of the players, especially the walk-ons.

I also like what I see from Bullock, especially compared to Souf. But, my understanding is that he was "glued to the bench" because he could not pass the fitness test required of ALL players on the team. That suggests a lack of dedication that should not be rewarded with playing time. A coach needs to enforce the rules. Of course, now there's no choice but to play him. Hopefully he makes the most of the opportunity and also gets himself into shape for the first time since arriving on the banks.
This clearly is not true and should not be repeated anymore. He didn't magically get in shape and pass the physical when Williams went down.

Well, acording to many on this board who attended a court club meeting months ago, it was repeated by the head coach himself, which certainly suggests that is true. I suspect is playing now out of desperation despite principles, but who knows.

This.

Can't there be an underlying medical condition that prevented him from passing the physical.

Moore hd great skills and might have been a hs AA before Marquette. Littlepage was always disciplining him for his weight but he was clearly the most talented player on that team. Was not comparing them at all. Only one issue to say hello to.

you guys should just stop bashing the guy and wish he would lose a bit because he doesn't suck and could contribute (and has).

I'm willing to admit I made a mistake.

But he didn't play for some reason for 1 1/2 seasons.

He seems to have a nice shot....and can rebound. So....Hoping he develops / can be counted on for meaningful minutes from here on out.

Bullock is more skilled than I expected but he needs to get in better shape (to state the obvious).

Matt showed today what kind of role he can play on this team going forward. Yes we all know the conditioning needs to improve but he can shoot the ball a little and worked hard on the glass today in the rebounding effort. Additionally yes Matthias hit a 3 on him but I really saw him fight over and through screens all day. He isn't as bad on defense as some might think he is or we might have assumed.

Bullock had a great game today - still sometimes not where he needs to be on the court, and has some lateral quickness deficiencies on defense, but played with a lot of heart and fight, which is what the team needs.

Good game, hoping to see more of that. #KungFuPanda

I agree with those praising Bullock’s effort today. He played hard and has a real confidence about him when he’s on the Court. Loved his smooth stroke from the FT line. Hopefully PT will motivate him to get in better shape.

I got to know Lloyd while at RU. I have one of the best Lloyd Moore stories ever, which I can't share here. He was a sweet, humble kid who simply lost his love of the game at the collegiate level.

And he's played in just a few games in the last two years, so he needs some time to get in the swing of things. He contributed nicely today and it was nice to see him get minutes down the stretch. Pike must like what he's seeing.

He got more minutes late with Thiam in foul trouble and fouling out on that nonsense charge. Made the most of his minutes.

Don’t know why he swelled up so severely at Rutgers. Check out his Senior year tape at Rosell Catholic. He’s like a gazelle!

Matt can hoop and contribute. He just needs to get in shape!
Not sure what you're looking at. He's already on the heavy side in that video. That's what 17 year olds look like before they get fat - LOL.

Bullock is a decent rebounder for his size. When he boxes you out, you stay boxed out.

Bullock is a BALLER that needs to play 25 minutes a game. He got more rebounds yesterday than Thiam has all year I'm also going to say he is a 10x better all around baller and yes I've seen him quite a bit i n HS

lol...

He had 6 rebounds yesterday - which was a great effort, to be sure. Thiam has had 6+ rebounds in 8 of our 25 games this year, too.

Bullock's also shooting worse than Freeman from three.

As some other people have said, if we could combine these two into one player, he'd be great.... combine Thiam's height, defense, and shooting stroke with Bullock's offensive aggressiveness, and take an average of their two weights (which would come out to 225).

Watching the SHU game on FOX and they just showed Myles Powell picture of him in HS side by side of him now.

Let’s say he looked similar to what Bullock does now , and he lost 30 pounds easily. That’s the transformation Bullock needs.

I’ve been saying since the first open practice last year that he was the most out of shape Rutgers player in my lifetime and that he would never contribute to this team. The fact that he is on this team and using a scholarship is inexcusable. This is not a Big Ten player and it is a pathetic state of affairs that anyone considers him a reasonable option.

Well, you are obviously incorrect. Please acknowledge your lack of basketball knowledge.

Funny managed to play 40 minutes against the best teams in HS at same weight. Granted HS but 5 guys from my school currently in the NBA

Funny last time I checked highschool games are only 32 minutes long.

He's also heavier than he was in highschool.

And this is BIG10 basketball. Not high school.

The last time I checked he went up against top D1 talent every day in practice sorry son not going to win this one...have you ever played the game? I'm going on a limb and say you do not have 2pts in your career from Rec ball 3rd and 4th grade on up

He's playing well, to be sure. Comparing 32 min at 240 lbs in HS ball vs. 40 min at 260 in the B1G, though, is just hyperbole.

You should do yourself a favor and take yourself out of this thread.

It's not going well for you.

Hahahahahaha. Well, if you consider "contributing" 8 FGs and and 10 rebounds in 2 years of varsity basketball as being a contributor on a team that is now down 4 roster spots to redshirt/transfer years (2) and injuries (2) then, yes, I would acknowledge that I'm obviously incorrect.

You don’t get to be 1st team All State at 6’4” without serious basketball skills. How does that translate to this level, we don’t know. But he’s shown well in th limited court time he’s had.

Can we just freaking wish the kid well and hope he does what he needs to do to contribute to RU basketball? Sheesh.

I just looked up the article listing the 2015-16 NJ All State teams, and Bullock was listed there at 220? The April 2016 archived page from 247 also lists him at 6-4, 220. Which leads me to believe that was his playing weight in HS.

A preview of the 2016-17 season from Nov 2016 has him listed at 260. So in a little over a year from his commitment, he put on 40 lbs.

So I'd have to review my above comparison.... 220 for 32 min in HS vs. 260 for 40 min in the B1G.

I get he’s out of shape, but I think people should think about this a little more. Isn’t it possible that as a freshman he saw nearly unlimited dining hall food, put on some weight fast, and then after getting in the dog house for it didn’t see an opportunity to play and lost motivation? I know sports are “next man up” and bench guys should stay ready, but that’s not always easy for former all state guys, or any 18 year old really.

Now that he’s basically guaranteed minutes the rest of the way, I wouldn’t be shocked if that snapped him out of that funk and motivates him to hit the gym. His size and body type may not be ideal, by even at his current condition, he seems to be able to get a decent look off easier than most of our players. Let this next month be an audition to see his work ethic when promised a chance at some PT.
If the scenario you draw up is true, it is still on him.

I scored a lot more than 2 pts in high school so I guess I'm allowed to comment. I see him listed at 220 in high school and now 260. That is a lot of weight to add (without growing) and not expect to lose any quickness and stamina. Also, while I never played Big 10 bball, I'm sure the intensity level is much higher than what he saw in high school. If he wants playing time, just get your self in shape.
