ea_1,
hope you're not leaving this board, don't let the hateful , spiteful jerks drive you away or have the never a problem crowd ( some might look at me as one) make you disappointed and stay away because of their refusal to admit something might be amiss.
Perhaps he / she will leave. I've thought about it.
As I've said elsewhere, I would generally qualify as a CVS supporter. I certainly don't judge the events of the LOA and the rest of it in the negative fashion many seem to, nor did I think she was a bad coach or having horrible success recruiting / coaching.
At the same time, I have from the beginning considered the defense first style of play as being worthy to keep a team in a game and give them a shot to win, even against better competition. I have felt that Rutgers has had a harder time winning as the game has changed; their reputation took a bit of a hit in the years after the Fab Five class didn't work out and they never regained that Sweet 16 level - although I always have thought it possible. I also recognized the lean years where RU personnel were not as good as previously, much attributable to the then state of the facilities combined with the age of CVS and the style of play. But we did climb out of that hole, at least some, with the better facilities.
With my view of the team, it seemed to me that the time for CVS to retire was, over the last few years (and even absent Covid) coming. Never that she "had to go". Nor the infamous "the game has passed her by". Rather, just in general, winning and contending at a top level was likely more and more difficult as the game did change and also recruiting by a coach approaching her mid-70's. I have never blamed this past season specifically on CVS - on the one hand, Rutgers approved the LOA and on the other, she had nothing to do with what happened in games.
After the past season, I just felt even more strongly that retirement - especially with whatever "issues" she may be facing that caused the LOA - was the right route to go. I certainly joined in discussion of possible successors, as I do have a point of view to share.
The folks identified as miserable and fomenting negativity are gradually driving me away as well. If it seemed as if I was one "piling on" I apologize which is why I explain my point of view here. I'll stick around for now, but not forever.
