Actually, there will be three former Rutgers basketball players in the NBA Summer League.

Don't even lump that guy in with Ron and Caleb.
Not if he earns a spot on the Celt's roster .
He played for RU and graduated from Rutgers, which will have some Rutgers fans inferring Cam's a Rutgers man
The UConn fan-base can claim he is a Husky and be right because he played the same length of time for their team as Spenser played for Rutgers and was drafted as a UConn player
Loyola of Maryland supporters might not claim Cam Spencer as one of their own, but they can point out his 3 years as a Greyhound was more than his next two stops as a college player combined and he became a good player under the tutelage of their basketball staff and might be able to claim that going to LOM put Spencer on the road to the NBA draft .
But this thread is about two players who can undoubtedly be called Rutgers men and I wish them the best in their summer league play hoping the way they play earns a shot to make the team that holds their rights and they prove worthy for a spot on the roster

its going to be very difficult for him unfortunately, but he has a chance. Celtics have 14 players under full contracts (O'Shae Brissett might return for the 15th slot if he can't find better in free agency, or could wait it out for a vet buyout) and 1 of 3 two-way contract slots filled. They also are over the 2nd apron, so they can't do multi-player for 1 trades. The Celtics could potentially opt to keep one of the young bigs (Watson/Enaruna/Tillie) and one of the highly talented developmental guards (Davidson/Harper/Ramsey). Harper's shooting will hamper him (along with everyone at SL), but he's also in the mold of Holiday and White (size, physical play, and ability to guard the forward position), especially if he can outdo Walsh and Springer in SL.

The Celtics are getting a longer look at Ron Harper Jr. after having him on his Summer League roster.
I won't pretend to know if it's a bad sign or not but Ron only played 10 minutes Saturday. Scored 3 points.

Ya. He's already going to training camp so Summer League isn't as critical.
Obviously still important but he's already passed to the next stage.
The summer league is critical for him so people from other teams see him play.

I would think good summer league play would give him a better chance to keep from being cut quickly in training camp because the Celts would give him a little more time to prove himself because of how he played in summer league.
Start off slow in training camp after a so so summer league performance, could be one of the first cuts.
Harper's line last night against the Lakers: 5 points on 2 of 6 from the field (1 of 3 on 3 pointers). 2 assists, no rebounds, steals or turnovers. Played a little over 13 minutes.

Keep in mind he's still rehabbing a surgically repaired shoulder, one of the commentators said during one of the games that he's being brought along slowly.
He had a couple of nice plays in the last game. We'll see. Perhaps he could be a Marcus Smart type of bully 2 that can defend 1-4.

based on what I saw in Summer League highlights, 2nd round pick Anton Watson will run away with the last 2-way spot given that he's a big with very good defense and was hitting multiple 3's. I can see why people were alluding to him being Al Horford's replacement whenever he retires.
Harper will still be there for training camp, perhaps they'll sign him to a G-League contract and call him up if they can't find a trade/buyout deal at the trade deadline to fill the 15th regular roster spot.

Caleb is going to go down as one of my all time favs, to think we might not have gotten him if the Strickland kid didn't decommit.

Yeah Walker is a bonafide scorer and rotation player on most teams and has starting experience, so I can imagine him competing for the 10 or 11 spot on the Celtics' rotation. He's a perfect backup for the Jays.
I think if anything RHJ will end up in Maine.
