Carino: Best NJ College Players of All Time

Not an unreasonable ranking or list.

I might put Bailey ahead of Derhere - and even Bob Lloyd, but that is quibbling once you get into the top 7.

Until I got to the end, I thought Sellers would be #1 - but I forgot about Bradley, who does have to be #1.

No WAY does Delgado belong n the top 25, by the way ... no way (the writer indicated that after the season, a position in the top 25 might have to be made for Delgado). By the way, though Battle seems to be left out, when you look at the list, and some of the criteria laid out for both inclusion, and how to rank, Battle does not make the cut.

Trying to figure out how Calandrillo is ranked ahead of Geoff Petrie

Still take Battle over Blackwell. Battle did make all conference

I’m young so I don’t know as many players than many of you on here but off the top for me I would say: KeeKee Clark (St. Peter’s) was the best college player in NJ that I’ve seen followed by Jason Thompson and Douby

Nick the Quick Werkman could not play as a freshman due to the rules of that era.
So his points were scored in three years. Dehere passed him for the Seton Hall scoring record
with four years of eligibility.

Greg Grant was a very nice player but he was still a D3 player playing D3 competition. All time top 20 - I don't think so.

How Hollis is left out is beyond me

Thought Bailey could be up a notch or two more

Also keep in mind there was no 3 point shot when Nick Werkman played.

I emailed Jerry. Wrote back he had no problem with John Battle being on the team. That was his toughest RU player to leave out. I was at RU when John was on the team, my favorite player.

Not on the list and maybe doesnt belong on it but I could see Armond Hill knocking out one of the players not hat list.

a list like this can always stir up a debate.

five of the selections played basketball on a lower level than a RU and Seton Hall..... they put up some very good numbers but one could question if they were as good as some omitted...

I think Jamming James Bailey should be a little closer to the top, IMO..... his sticking around in the NBA for nine seasons should be noted.....

Phil the thrill is given his due here....

But it's best "college" players. Not best players or best college players who hung around in the NBA.

John Battle wound up being an excellent college player after a so-so freshman year..... I also thought he should be in the top 25 based on that alone.

becoming a NBA player validates the college player....the players at lower level college teams that could not make the NBA, makes me suspect that they looked better than they were, playing lesser teams in college..... you just don't know how good they really were.

If that's true, then why isn't your board name " battle"

Nice meeting you tonight!
