Carroo Court Day Today

This is RU, not TCU.

This is America. If charges are dropped because of a lack of evidence, then the officials at RU need to reinstate Mr. Carroo. This is not a he said she said case. There were witnesses. If the testimony from the witnesses or the video clear him, then the suspension should be over.

If it goes to trial, he won't be back.[/QUOTE]

It's never that simple. It should be but it isn't.

Agree Trial = end of RU career

Keith Sargeant just tweeted that LC's attorney expects the case to go to trial.

The attorney also said that if LC is NOT reinstated prior to trial, there is "little chance" he plays this season.

Color me pretty surprised.

The same attorney who says he is innocent and has video to prove it thinks it will go to trial?

What happened to the video evidence that clearly showed Carroo was innocent?

Don't shoot the messenger...lol

I happened to open my Twitter and saw tweets from Sargeant and Dunleavy saying the same thing.

"LC's Attorney says he will ask that LC be reinstated before possible mid-November trial"

Yea his only chance at playing this season is for the judge to dismiss the case. If it goes to trial I think Rutgers will dismiss Caroo from the team. At that point the trial will be more critical for his NFL prospects.

That will never happen. Caroo would be more likely to be dismissed from the team outright than reinstated if it goes to trial.

The videos I saw were like 10-20 seconds each. I'm sure it did not show the whole incident from start to finish. So they can say it happened before or after the video stops. Best case for Caroo would be if something the victim stated to have happened is contradicted by the tape.

Lol.

Where in the Constitution does it say that LC has an unalienable right to play football at RU?

Even if it did, it would require that an official at RU has an actual spine. Ain't gonna happen.

Don't agree. Dismissing him says you believe he's guilty. I would imagine they'll just continue the suspension open ended.

If the only video was the 16-seconds that was released, I'm not sure why Carroo's attorney claimed to have video showing he was innocent.

“We indicated today that we have a video as well as statements of witnesses that indicate that Leonte did not have any contact and did not in any way assault, injure or have any involvement with (the woman),” said Carroo’s criminal defense attorney, Peter Gilbreth.

If it goes to trial it shows that whatever happened was not cut and dry.

Peele had a similar situation who's case was thrown out when the victim did not appear in court. And Flood stated that he regretted giving Peele a second chance.

I understand but still believe no matter what anyone's personal thought are that we should just let the court do it's thing before reinstating, saying good-bye, or anything else other than the status quo.

+1, am hopeful but agree with this.

Sounded like there had been more issues with Peele than that particular incident. So it was more than just a second chance. That does not seem to be the case with Carroo. Yes, I know about the curfew violation.

I thought Delon Stephenson and Rahzonn Gross would be given their day in court too before their dismissal but that did not happen. Just saying Caroo might be dismissed if it goes to trial.

I agree. I think you have to be consistent. But I think the timing, the nature of the charges against the others in fight/home invasion incidents and the media attention accelerated the process.

Do we even know if LC would quickly reinstated?
Based on this being RU administration and not to mention she was a Rutgers employee.
I can see the RU propeller heads and lawyers NOT reinstating just to cover their butts from an impending klawsuit from the alleged victim....what a soap opera this can continue to be.

Coach Flood reported to the press that acted on his own when he indefinitely suspended Carroo.
Assuming charges are dropped, a decision for reinstatement may involve a broader audience, but the threat of legal action from the victim would likely have no influence.

The simple assault is going to trial in mid-November (at the earliest) but his attorney is asking for LC to be reinstated pending resolution. The DV TRO hearing is in Family Court next week & his attorneys will present evidence (videos & eyewitness testimony) that LC never touched her.

Given his "unofficial" meetings with the professor, I understand why this is not a good idea. But, it would be nice if Flood could just go talk to Leonte and his Lawyers and ask (1) are you honestly innocent, and (2) to the lawyers, are you confident that you have the evidence to clear him. If they answer yes, then just reinstate him already. It's if he's guilty and they're still trying to free him of charges that you have to sit around and wait for the trial results.

“We’re very pleased with the way it’s going judicially, but we have to encourage Rutgers University to see if they can reassess this position that they have that until it’s over he’s suspended. We have to get him back on the team,” Gilbreth said. “Otherwise the season could be over for Leonte, which is not, in my mind and in our minds, fair.”

So let's ignore the fact that this would be a PR nightmare. Fine. If the coach asked him these questions, and with him recognizing that his chances to play this year and improve his projected NFL draft status are entirely dependent upon his response to these questions, how do you think him / his lawyer will respond?

Leonte Carroo's career at Rutgers is basically over even if he's cleared by mid November ...the judicial system in New Jersey sucks B1G time when it comes to expeditiously hearing pending case... time to move on.

If the hearing on the 6th goes well for lc or bad for his accuser and Rutgers does not reinstate him that really is not a good outcome for Rutgers. Particularly when he gets exonerated. Really not good.

RU is between a rock and a hard place.
Reinstate and get pummeled by media.
Don't reinstate....what does that tell prospective athletes/recruits and their family?...no support from admin!...You are guilty until proven innocent.

Yep -- which is why it comes down to the same question... why would a B1G name coach ever want to coach in this state absent serious money and guarantees, neither of which the state, university, or fan base can afford.

F the media. And F flood for doing this on his own if that is the case without taking a moment to understand everything better. Just a CYA move on his part given the crap he was in. "Suspended Pending Investigation" is what he should have done. Covers both possibilities.

Yeah, but, can you imagine the circus if he wasn't suspended?

That's silly, this would be an issue anywhere, and has been at countless schools.

Both Flood and Carroo should be on the field. All they has to do was listen to people who told them not to do anything. Unfortunately they ignored great advice and I'm sure they regret it.

Can't argue with any of that!!!!

Why does it matter to fans if Carroo is reinstated? Other than vs Army, our QB who can't throw more than 10 yds with any velocity will not give Carroo a chance to have an impact. I guess the Norfolk and Army games will be Laviano and Carroo's highlight film (throw MD in there too.)

I disagree, primarily because who the hell cares if Rutgers is getting pummeled by the media at this point? Also because prospective athletes/recruits are not developing their impression of the Athletic Department's administrative support from the conclusions being drawn on message boards.

Rutgers gets pummeled by the media regardless of what they do or don't do with Carroo.

I understand. I am not saying he shouldn't have been. But "Suspended pending Investigation" leaves the door much more open vs."Indefinite Suspension" IMHO)

Give me a minute to review and decide vs. who the hell knows when and if.

As long as the prosecutor continues to press the case against Carroo, he is not going to be reinstated.
