What are National Ticker Headlines right now?
  • SMU academic cheating and coach suspended 9 games.
  • TCU players who stole beer not charged and immediately reinstated to team.
  • Louisville allegedly had escorts/whores for basketball players and recruits.
So unless there is clear evidence this guy did something as bad as alleged he should be playing until found guilty. Other than the Newark Inquisition nobody is going to give a rat's a$$ and this isn't fair to him or the team UNLESS there is really something of credible evidence we haven't seen.

Rutgers needs to step up and stop playing the JV act.

Please stop. First of all we are not and do not aspire to be a college that doesn't care.
LC was told NOT to go outside but he failed to take sound advice. He is suspended...for the second time this season... for making a bad decision.

I do not believe that is any reason for maintaining a year long suspension. Breaking curfew is violation of team rules (or something like that) and worth what he got. Somebody(?) telling him not to go outside is another? Nope. don't buy it. Additional suspension for getting involved in the situation..I buy that too. But enough is enough now. If we are not going to play our cards and be in the game then we should get out of the game. I am not talking about cheating, I am talking about competing.

I grew up watching JJ run against Ed Marinaro at Cornell...if we want to go back there I am fine with it. If we want to play big boy football we need to suck it up.

It's all Duke 2.0. He should be playing against Mich St.
Really. I have zero info about what happened but this I do know. Until the case is over and ALL the video is made public than RU should sit tight. If you think otherwise look at the Ray Rice incident. Didn't look bad at all until the last video came out

Unfortunately we need to stick with how we've always treated arrests and not treat ANY obe team member different than we'd treat another. Wrong, or right, it's how we do things, and if we suddenly let him play next week, prior to the judicial process doing its job, we would get hammered by the press. Then, God-forbid a kid was proven guilty after we "changed our minds," my lord they would feast on it.

Ask yourself this: if it were a true frosh, likely RS'ing, would you care so much?

White Bus, enough of that bull shit " he was told not to go outside".....I don't care who said what, if my girlfriend and my mother were involved in some type of altercation, you can bet I'd be out there. What if one of them were hit over the head with a bottle, or seriously injured in some other way while he stayed inside and watched? What would everyone be saying then? He should be reinstated now until something comes out that PROVES otherwise.

My word. You should be a 1980s SMU fan

Very well said!

I love this thinking that some seem to have: "credible evidence we haven't seen." Well, imagine that. You haven't seen it from your most perfect position -- on a message board. If only the prosecutor or judge knew what you know, it'd be dismissed. Darn it.

Or . . . and stay with me now because this is going to be tricky . . . RU doesn't play the guy who is under active charges for domestic violence.

I thought Rutgers fans took pride in setting higher standards for their student athletes? If it's bad enough for him to go to trial, do you really want him representing your school on Saturdays? Is football that important to you? It sounds a whole lot like the talk track and thought process from some of the fans you despise...

Cannot quite decide if this is too misogynistic.

On its own, that comment may appear that way, but this is what I mean:

I'm seeing lots of comments to the effect of "you can't blame LC for getting involved, if your mom and gf were in a fight you'd get involved too."

I guess you could say that, but how the hell does a situation like that unfold? What kind of person are you dating/hooking up with that would throw bows at your mom? I've never been in that situation and can't imagine how a situation like that occurs unless you're dating a Jerry Springer Show contestant (ratchet).

To me the question is less about LC getting involved in the heat of that moment, and more a question of how did he get involved with people who would create that type of a moment.

Many of us would have ignored the direction to not go outside, but that doesn't make it right. I would have been willing to deal with consequences when I made the decision to go against the direction. Leonte was told what not to do and chose the consequences.

He should not be reinstated. Why would we treat him any differently than any other player arrested in the past? Peele pled not guilty last year and no one cried out for him. Reinstatement was considered once the charges were dropped.

You/we have heard one side of the story. We have seen carroo lawyer releasing information. Imagine that a defense attorney stating his client is innocent. Shocking. The police had enough evidence to arrest and the prosecutor was enough to indict. That is enough to warrant the suspension.

Not going to disagree with you here. I think a lot of us are pissed off about how this was reported from the start. Does anyone actually think a 200+ pound guy slammed a 100 pound girl and the girl was able to talk about it the next day. She be seriously injured if that happened. Not saying Carroo didn't do anything wrong, it would just be nice if ESPN and every other outlet wasn't reporting "Rutgers star receiver slams girl after loss." We all know that's a ridiculous statement. This girl would have been out cold if she got slammed. Clearly she wasn't.

I just don't get why nobody other than team Carroo, saw who injure the victim. The victim had a crew, there were police and other witnesses around, but nobody saw Carroo do it? Seems strange. Why doesn't the victim have one from her gang testifying against Carroo?

The three examples in the OP are all in what region of the country???? Enough said!
I am in the camp that the school has no choice other than to wait and see what happens. This is a clear case of making sure you don't screw it all up. Sad, that we will not have his services on the field, but the school should be bigger than that.
As for that video released by LC's attorney, I couldn't figure out what the hell was going on in that short clip. I get that his friend is claiming he did it, but the police have the job of figuring it out for sure.
With the snail pace of our justice system, I feel LC will never play another down in a Rutgers' uniform. I sincerely hope this all works out for him and he has the opportunity to play as a pro.

Maybe because team Carroo is the only one playing the game in the media while the prosecutor will play it in court?

Other people do bad things is not a defense. Are people that dumb....why didn't Sandusky just say...well I didn't kill anyone!!!

Carroo made the choice, intervene in a fight over NFL millions. Now he is living with it, and it is not RU's job to rescue him.

This is tough to consider because Bus brings up a good point about the RR situation. But here's the part that I have a problem with, there is no real evidence that suggest LC was the aggressor. Right now everything is "he said/she said" and if there is no evidence that can most likely convict LC, then you can not unjustly ruin his season because of somebody is claiming you did something. The accusations are serious, but the truth is anybody can say anything about anyone. You cannot start throwing out punishments left and right because someone said someone did something. I'm not saying LC is innocent, because he may very well be guilty and if he is, obviously he'll have to face the consequences. But on the chance that he is found innocent or that the young lady embellished her story a little to get back at LC for any wrong doing he caused her, then we officially punished somebody who is only guilty of a lack of good moral judgement. Politics about good PR needs to stay out of this, it's terrible PR for RU in the long run to show we will punish student athletes regardless if they are guilty or innocent.

Lets just assume at worst he intervened..... you're telling me we're going to cost a kid millions and his final season at RU because he broke up a fight? That's pretty rediculous

If this was a walk-on EVERYONE on this board would be taking a wait and see approach if they were even discussing it. Simply put we should never have anyone on the sideline that is out on bail. These threads are embarrassing.

Caroo should be given some leeway and the benefit of the doubt. He's been a good ambassador for RU.

He showed loyalty by staying his last year despite what some might say as an ulterior motive of improving his game as his sole motivation to totally dismiss him.

Can't make any judgment on people's opinions but what does it say about a "I don't give a shit about you" attitude toward a highly ranked recruit who could have went anywhere but stayed loyal to rep his state at his state's school?

Truly this place eats its own. Surprised how the majority are callous towards his plight.

BINGO! Every time I ask this question it never gets answered: "would you care so much (feel the same way) if this were a true frosh likely rs'ing this season?

This reminds me so much of the Rashard Casey story years ago at Pedd St.
JoePa would have kicked his ass off the team right away if he wasn't the star quarterback.
Likewise, few here would be clamoring for reinstatement if Leonte wasn't an elite player.

Rutgers has the only fans in the country who argue why their student athletes should be suspended.

Cali - just gotta stick with protocol here, IMH

I don't' want ANY of our student-athletes suspended, however, we can only discuss how it's handled, and what we think about it, right?

You would've gone outside too in the same situation. I would've too.

I argued the other way originally. But if what we're hearing is true that his mom and GF were being attacked, then I believe he did the right thing by trying to get his GF and mom away from the crowd.

The math changes if he actually touched the victim. He should've simply dragged his mom and GF away and not put his hands on anybody else. If he never touched the victim, then I can no longer denounce his decision to go out and safeguard his loved ones.

I wonder how much correlation there is between wanting Coach Flood out this year and being happy to let Caroo sit out as long as possible - or vice versa.

+1. I cant blame Carroo at all if the extent of what he did was break up a fight in which mother and girlfriend got attacked, but agree with keeping him suspended until the courts sort this out.

What is most upsetting to me is how slow the wheels of our justice system turn on all levels. On one end of the spectrum we have convicted murderers sitting on death row for decades filing countless appeals and legal motions, while on the other hand a football player who gets arrested for simple assault and has to wait at least two months for a court trial to occur.

If it turns out that there's damning evidence and Carroo is guilty as charged, then he should face the full consequences. However, if he ends up being innocent of assault and having been arrested on the sole basis of the alleged victim's story, when she was involved in the fighting and didn't see who had grabbed her, that's wrong and an unfair consequence of this state's dizzying array of laws/L.E.

From my reading of the tea leaves at this point it was the Caroo posse that started the melee and was beating up on the victim. That would explain the Caroo gang getting arrested instead of the victim and her friends. Instead of Caroo defending his posse it's just as likely that he was piling on the victim along with the others. Let the courts settle it before we jump the gun to save his reputation.

Shame on us if we reinstate LC while these charges are still pending.

All that matters here, for Carroo, is what Carroo did. What anybody else did is irrelevant. But I agree that he cannot be reinstated until such time as the prosecutor or the courts have acted. Let's hope that the prosecutor determines that he has enough information to drop the charges on Carroo, and soon, regardless of what happens to anybody else.
