If all he did was defend his mom and GF, and if he didn't touch the alleged victim, then he acted as any son and boyfriend should've acted. Maybe not worthy of a statue. But also not worthy of being suspended.
Agree, and those who says he should stay suspended, how long? He has already been suspended for 2 games. If it turns out he was only trying to break up a fight, he should be suspended the whole year?
Sure Rutgers can keep him suspended because we all know they are afraid of the bad publicity. But is this the fair thing to do?
Let us remember he was only charged with simple assault.
Under New Jersey criminal assault law, simple assault is a disorderly persons offense. A person convicted of this offense is subject to a fine of up to $1000. There is no jail time even considered.
A reasonable thing to do would be to wait for the TRO hearing on the 6th. Rutgers should make sure they have some lawyers there. If materially everything stays the same, and the worst that could happen will be a conviction for simple assault, then Rutgers should announce either reinstatement for suspended time already served or add on a game or two extra, and announce a return date.
For all you hang em Harry judges out there, sorry, a full year suspension does not fit the crime here.
And I don't care what ESPN or any other yellow journalist thinks. It wouldn't mean RU doesn't care, it just would mean that they looked at all the factors involved and decided to do what they thought was right.
