CBI

The OSU game is so big, a game against Northwestern is an amazing opportunity. It will be rocking getting a lot of attention, we could be the hot team that kills the tourney hopes of the only power school who's never been there

I think we get a bid even with only one more win but I don't know if we would accept. Many teams last year were rated worse than we are rated right now.

CBI is a joke and should not exist. The quintessential pay to play tournament. Can't see RU footing the bill for that one.

Just try to find a bracket for the CBI tournament.
So are a lot of the bowl games we went to. But extra practice and playing in games is always beneficial in the long run. Especially in year 1 of a new coach.

Are we kidding here, any tournament would be great. The players would love it and IMO this would be a huge benefit going forward. What is the downside? For example, if we were in the tournament and won a few games our final record would improve, we gain tournament experience, more minutes for the players and more coverage. This is a no brained. If offered take it.

The downside of a long run in the CBI tournament would be losing the money the equivalent of what we pay an assisstant coach for a year. Put in another way probably about 1/4 of the money we weren't prepared to spend to fire Fred hill Jr. before the baseball fiasco.

I know now things are different and we are in the B1G, but you can't ignore finances. There are other sports in the athletic department that could use $150,000.

Northwestern is locked in at this point. Tourney time is a different time. Northwestern is playing for NCAA seed, their last two games played at a much higher level than how they played RU its first two games. These schools are getting serious. RU has won 3 games total in league play, never back to back so alot of things working against a run of getting to the quarters in this tourney. Sure it can happen but 90% chance its not happening

money should not be the issue here...the positives to the program outweigh it, either you want to play in big time sports or you do not deserve to be there

With as much money that gets spent on football, this is not a cost issue as much as it's value to what happens next year....You would get road games that you can't simulate in the OOC slate next year, when we really didn't have the trust of what needs to happen on the court during our OOC game this year.

I believe if you can win Wednesday and somehow upset NW, the cost of what it would take to travel may be beneficial to ticket sales and momentum into next season. I believe you can sell more season tickets next year by playing these games, vs looking at the cost involved. It's not a complete loss of revenue as much as re-establishing basketball as a 2nd focal point at RU.....one that is sorely needed as a boost after what we saw in football last season.

The recruiting time lost, would not be as critical as it appears to be, since March Madness will be ongoing and the coaches carousel has already started. There are very talented teams that are also rebuilding that won't make the NIT, but are getting better.

What if you have a diving board that needs to be replaced? Do we say there isn't money for that and potentially pay $180,000 to host 3 games at the RAC and end up flying the team to the west coast when they meet Pepperdine in the 3 game final.

You guys conveniently ignore the fact that there is an athletic department PLUS in a bigger picture a state that runs out of money and goes bankrupt in 15-20 years without change PLUS an athletic department indirectly subsidized by NJ while tuition fees keep climbing.

IMHO, the onus in competing in the CBI should be on us fans.

If the invitation comes I am glad that Pat Hobbs and staff will make the decision. The decision making in 1+ years has been a lot better since Pat arrived at RU.

What caused RU MBB to be so bad for so many years was running it on the cheap.
Turning down this tourney and the experience it will give might save money but keep the team from improving as quickly as it could .
Also if the team does well in that tourney, the PR might be worth the cost when it comes to recruiting better talent.

there is always money

Until I see RU start spending more aggressively I will be very surprised they would pay for play in a CBI type tournament.

We won 3 conference games and we want to play in the CBI ? As a reward for what ?

I wouldn't look it as a reward, but a chance to gain more experience in an effort to improve.
Any reward wouldn't be because of the W-L record, but because of the effort the players made throughout the year.

It would have been nice to get the guys experience but not getting invited allows the coaches to recruit and build relationships.

The CBI offered, we declined...

If I had to guess, the focus has quickly become recruiting, as evidenced by having Mucius on campus in a timely fashion.

Playing a few more games has far less upside, and exposes the core of returning players to a greater risk of a catastrophic injury in a relatively meaningless setting...

Would have liked Thiam to get a few more games, but hope they do recruit well. BK, didn't Williams hurt his arm in Northwestern game?

I'm not aware of Mike suffering any significant injury during the tournament. He has played with a dislocated finger on his shooting hand for quite some time though

I said I wasn't aware of any injury. I haven't spoken to anyone about team issues since the season ended.

If it were anything serious, I'm sure we'd all know by now
