Hey Rutgers friends.

Just a heads-up that Chris Partridge has been permanently hired for the position of Linebackers and Special Teams coach for the Wolverines.

I figure you Jersey folks know much more about Partridge than the average Wolverines fan. So.... my questions are... is this a good thing for Michigan?... is Partridge a decent coach?... or is this just meh, and is he in Ann Arbor mainly to be an East Coast recruiter?

Thanks.

If he can teach your punter to just fall on the ball he'll be better than the last guy. Other than that, he coached a high school all-star team to wins. So yeah he can recruit that's for sure, he got high school kids to PC or maybe his star players did. He'll probably sleep over at a recruits house if you want him to, he seems like the type. But coach who knows.

Permanent as in tenured?

Good for him soaking Michigan since his pipeline of 2016 kids has dried up.

Chris will always have a pipeline from nj, he has better relationships with pop warner head coaches in nj (specifically in the inner city) than any other parochial head coach in north jersey. That means a lot.

He is a good coach, he beat some legendary coaches in nj hs football during his time at PC

Any other breaking news to share?

I'm hearing there's a skeleton working its way out of the closet on this one...anybody else hearing anything?

Kids seem to like him maybe, but other NJ coaches definitely don't have a good relationship with him. Good coach though.

I would like to dispute this but to honest, am not 100% sure. Can others chime in? I mean, his best players didn't even come from pop warner coaches as they transferred in as upper classman

Vkj, michigan is running a pop warner camp in Newark in April for the kids in 5th-8th grade. Coaches from Newark and neighboring cities, Oranges etc. will participate. Is that an accident?

No but that doesn't mean he has the best contacts. Coaches in poor areas will take all the charity they can get. You think they would turn down a similar offer if it was ASU? Of course not. How many kids were at PC from Newark or orange when CP was there(remember peppers was a transfer)

Ok, so since you brought it up, why don't you open up the closet and drag the skeleton out so we can all talk about it. Don't be scared. He coaches for Michigan now and we don't like them.

My opinion is that if you take a coach that is not qualified to be an assistant at one of the top programs in the country, Michigan, just to land a few players, it is a long term mistake.

He is using the old Grassroots Basketball model. Get to the kids before 8th grade for High School. Get to them by freshman year for college. He turned Paramus Catholic into an AAU high school football team. Good for him. I have a feeling this will be the one and only year that the inner city camps will be allowed.

Has he increased or decreased the number of porn stars/cam girls he interacts with on Twitter since he got the promotion?

Thanks. I'll hang up and listen.

.

Agree, but Partridge is a football guy first, recruiter and AAU type guy second. He will do well as LB coach at mich and most likely will be a dcoord at the 1a level within the next 5 years.
The way he had to build paramus catholic was out of necessity to compete and beat the old guard - it was not the first choice method of which to improve the team.
Once pc finally started rexruiting Paterson and east orange, they found that bosco was already there. So maybe fingers should be pointed at toal and not partridge for the AAU approach.

Michigan got worse with the move. Michigan was better off with him as a male hostess there. As soon as his hs pipeline is dry, any recruiting effectiveness is over, and UM is stuck with a mediocre position coach.

NJ coaches hate him. As other have said, this is short term and not sustainable long term.

Since I brought up the AAU comparison I assume that finger point was directed at me. At no point was I pointing fingers I actually gave him credit for using that model. IN order for him to compete in that environment he needed to do just that.

His coaching prowess still needs to be seen. If he doesn't maintain a strong grassroots relationship with the greater NJ area his recruiting capabilities will be short lived. Once his main recruiter Jabrill is gine.

no, its all good regarding the finger pointing. Im pointing them too, just not blaming partridge for the aau type stuff. It was bound to hit the parochial schools sooner or later (football is becoming like the basketball set up more and more - this is just a symptom of that).
But I know chris pretty well and he is a good coach who ran his game with the new set of rules. The same set of rules that everyone is using now. Toal started it, partridge did it better than him with less resources. I hate that we are such haters when someone plays the game better than we do. He did it, good for him.

The guys who think he is some recruiting gimmick, thats pretty far off. He cares a lot more about Xs and Os than who the actual players are. At paramus catholic he had some very, very average players that he turned into solid starters. The guy wants to be a big time coach and is well on his way.

You seriously think in the next 5 years he's going to go from recruiting coordinator to DC. That's a pretty meteoric rise if you ask me. Especially at this level where guys flunk out all the time. I think you may be blinded by your friendship here.

I do. Not saying it will be at a bcs school, but 2-3 years as a position coach and 1-2 years as an assistant coordinator at a B1G east school will land you an AAC or MAC coordinator job. A harbaugh recommendation will go far.
Look at our new offensive coordinator...
A lot of guys can coach and more and more schools are taking chances on hungry young coaches.
