Nice pick 6 by Memphis to even the score after a turnover of their own and bad job with the kick return. 7-7

Wow big play there, perfect throw right in stride and pretty good coverage too. 82yds 14-7 Memphis

Tough hit on Kiel, just had a concussion last week too. Hopefully, he's ok. Looks liked he was knocked out cold, stopped moving.

Still haven't seen any movement from him as they cart him out. Now they're showing him awake and talking. At least that's better. After replay targeting call was taken back.

Blocked FG. All 3 phases coming up with plays. Pick 6, 82yd TD and now blocked FG.

This will probably come off as insulting but I'm genuinely curious: you're watching and posting updates on an AAC Thursday night match-up thinking anyone on here actually cares? Personally, the AAC (land of misfit toys) is so far in my rearview I couldn't care less about this matchup. I'd be surprised if that wasn't the opinion of most on this board with the possible exception of BigEastPhil, who, to his credit, hasn't changed his handle.

Cincy backup QB, Moore, comes in and immediately throws a bomb for a TD. That would NEVER happen at RU. Rettig would be sadly handcuffed. Ugh.

I'm not insulted at all. Even if you were purposely trying, which you're not, I still wouldn't care lol. Like I always say it's a messageboard I don't take a lot said here all that seriously.

I've been posting updates because it's the only game on tonight but also because many seem to be talking coaching candidates and Justin Fuetnte is one I've mentioned multiple times and this is an opportunity to see his team at Memphis. If no one is interested eventually I'll just let the thread die. I've done the same for other games and no one replied and the thread just drops off the board. This time I was a little more persistent because of the coaching prospect.

I've turned it on too. Cincy's freshman QB looks to have a strong and accurate arm,

If he out coaches Tubs I'll keep an eye on him.

He already beat Tuberville 41-14 last year at Cincy. A win here or loss there doesn't change my opinion on him. It's a body of work. His DC from last year got hired by Mizzou and Mizzou has the 4th/5th rank defense (total/scoring)after a few games. It'll be good to see how Fuente replaced him and if he can still keep rolling this year. HCs have to replace coaches at times too and that's also part of the job. I'm still not completely sold on him but another similar performance to last year and I'll feel more confident.

He makes more than Flood at Memphis, ouch. I think to get anyone decent we'll have to pay up around 2mil....I think Julie can get it done.

He makes 1.4M IIRC and has a 500K buyout. His contract was upped after last year but buyout stayed the same.

Memphis finally got some nice uniforms. Those all-mirror ones were bad. This has just the right amount, and the tiger/bengal style is cool. Also, really nice crowd at the Liberty Bowl, good for them. Probably their biggest home game of the year.

Two things...
We may need a new coach and both of these guys are solid
It's college football so I watch. You sound like BAC and his yearly to many bowls thread.

Cincy got robbed, how could replay overturn that fumble call. It clearly was a fumble.

Just goes to show you why Flood is right and what happens when a backup QB named Hayden with a strong arm is put under pressure. That INT looked terrible. Kid broke a passing record for Cincy tonight but threw the game away.

Could not agree more! Not only wasn't there evidence to overturn, there was enough evidence to overturn the other way. I don't think the guy's knee ever hit the ground. Certainly you could not tell for sure that it did. Cincy really got robbed.

Also, did you notice at the end of the game, they just let the clock run out after the change of possession?

Hayden Moore got experience and was ready to perform tonight because he got meaningful time in every game except the Temple loss. Tuberville understands giving the backup some meaningful time so they can be ready and get some development. Flood does not understand this whether he is coaching on the sideline or watching it at home.

Shame to see Moore make a bad play to seal Cincy's fate, but had they gotten the fumble call right, it might never have came to that.

They would never have even been in a position to win if it wasn't for Hayden in the first place!

I never thought I would be looking to a school like Memphis for an HC. This guy Fuente seems to have put some life into the program.

He seems pretty good. I think his defense might take a hit this year with the loss of his DC to Mizzou but we'll see how he does. I put some stats on him and other coaches in the Darrel Hazell thread.

Fair enough. I was just really surprised to see an in-game thread on our board going for the AAC Thursday night matchup on a night when the Giants, Yankees and Mets were also playing.

And there are too many bowls. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

"A source with knowledge of the situation said Memphis and Fuente have agreed to a five-year contract starting at $1.4 million per season. The contract goes up by $25,000 per year for each year of the deal. The buyout remains unchanged at $500,000. Fuente made around $1 million in 2014."

Probably can't afford him. How the hell does Memphis pay its football coach more than Rutgers?

Yea I posted those figures, I think in this thread actually. Well they didn't at first and now they've upped it after last year. FedEx probably helps a little. If he was someone we wanted I don't think those figures are prohibitive. 500K buyout isn't the 2.25M buyout of Herman and 1.4M to about 2-2.25M salary seems doable to me. I like him from this "crop" but I wonder if he'd like to coach up north. Some coaches don't care some do, it's hard to know what's in their minds.

I think people get caught up too much in Flood's salary. He's getting paid exactly what he deserves. Same for when he got hired. We offered Cristobal 1.3M and I bet Addazio would have been given something similar. Should we pay more just because? Like Texas paying Strong 5M? Jimbo Fisher a national champ coach makes 4M and you have Franklin/Strong/Sumlin/Mullen/Freeze and some others making 4M. Now there are some good coaches on that list but does that make sense?

I think our budget will be 1.5-2.5M if we make a change and I'm perfectly fine with it. The guy should get the salary his experience and accomplishments warrant. I've given the salaries of coaches on their first contracts at new schools and most of them outside the SEC and a select few fall in that range of 1.5-2.5M. Even Mullen/Freeze and I think some others first contracts in the SEC were in that range but they have since been redone multiple times as the situation warrants. I'm not even a fan of that just off one year performance (see Mike London at UVA) but that seems to be the norm these days.

I never inferred (or is it implied?[banana]) that Flood should be paid more. I agree his pay is right for experience and results on the field. I think the upper end of your range (2.5M) is too high for Rutgers. Remember, assistants have to be paid too. I think 1.8M or 1.9M. I don't know anybody or have any inside knowledge, just judging based on past observations and Rutgers' reputation for not paying for coaches.

I inferred it. Many bring up the low salary we pay. If it's justified for our current coach it shouldn't really be an issue right? We're paying this guy nothing so the next guy is going to get nothing too is the implication no? I don't see it that way. We're paying this guy what his experience warrants and we'll pay the next guy what his experience warrants. That sounds fine to me.

I do think we would pay that on the top end and would have money for assistants but again only for someone who would warrant it. I don't think just every up and comer warrants that.

So you think 5 years later, in the B1G, we have less money than we paid Schiano?

Justin Fuente would be a good coach for Rutgers. Beat BYU, TEMPLE, CONN, SO FL, CINN and close game with UCLA And Houston in 2014. Needed 2 years to turn Memphis around.

I hate answering a question with a question, but it seems appropriate here.
Was Barchi president when RU agreed to his salary?
You can make your own inference (or is it implication?[banana]) from this.

We will pay $2-2.5 million for a replacement or we are going to find another position coach with no experience as HC. Formula for losing.

Actually, you can pay less in salary but include easily obtainable bonuses to reach 2.5 million and add some real bonuses for wins over 7-8 wins.
