CIOFFI STILL CAN'T TACKLE

Nice kid. Great family. Great deli. He is a big believer in what Coach Ash is doing here.

He struggled a ton at S and I'm being nice. Someone needs to step up and improve in his place for next year. Either KJ Gray, Hester or a true frosh.
Tell me more about the deli.

Great kid from a great family. Did anyone consider he didn't have much help in the secondary after the rest of them switched to prison stripes? Sure he had his share of miscues. And he has a serious problem with not wrapping up. But he always gave 100% on the field, regardless of talent. Classless post is right. Then again, most of you on here are all Americans. Smh.

Thank the coach for teaching everyone how to tackle. AC was the first one "knighted" by the great former DC. If you guys want to pile on, Ash and staff deserves most of the credit.

I never understand ripping a player who plays his best. If there was a better guy they would play him. It's not his fault he's our best option. Why blast him? If he was lazy or had a shitty attitude fine, but he does what he can do. If Ash thinks there is a better guy play him. Until then we would be worse without him in the coaches view so STFU

Wait. Are you talking about our safeties or our punter or our kicker or our linebackers ?

IF any of you were there in person yesterday, you saw that outside of the Defense line, there are few individual players who can tackle in a one on one spot on the current defense. Fundamentaly RU is lacking in many areas but outside of bad Special teams and linebacker play, tackling is a continous serious problem at RU. What happened to the great Rugby techiques Ash and staff talked about at start of season???

Coffee has a hurt shoulder and doesn't have full strength of his arm. Otherwise he is a good player.

Thanks for sharing this. Since the young man was a team leader the past few years, I suspected there was some issue like this.

He probably shouldn't even be out there, but he is giving his best to help his team. I suspect there are several guys in the same situation. Gentlemen, you have earned my respect.

Soon he will be tackling the meat cutter at Cioffis deli in Springfield. When we got him I had hoped for a John Lynch Harrison Smith type or one of those tough Italian or Polish guys that Paterno always recruited..Oh well.Good luck to he and his family .

I heard from a friend who knows the fam that he is getting callls from agents and expects to get drafted or certainly make it deep into camp. He has legit straight line speed, so maybe a special teams player? Practice squad to start?

AC played this season with a separated shoulder & elbow injury, he toughed it out since both Hester & Hampton had leg injuries & could not go, so Cioffi toughed it out for the team even though he could have sat out & gotten a red shirt. We have some clueless scumbag, so called fans, who run their mouths when they don't have any f...ing clue what the real story is.

Cioffi is a great kid and a Loyal Son. Unless a student commits an infraction or flunks out of class, I can't imagine why anyone would single out one of our own. This is not professional sports - these are college kids who are doing their best. I think that people need to vent their frustrations about the team in other ways besides calling out an individual student.

I agree, except if a kid flunks out, and couldn't handle the football and class work, I don't believe
he should be called out. This is one reason I didn't like using the 18 year old and burning
his red shirt over a hand few of appearances. It is very tough transition for these kids, and many
coaches believe more in the red shirt.

Nothing against any of our players - I think they all tried their best this season...

But what happened to the rugby-style tackling that was supposed to be so much better? Is it being implemented? Is is actually any better?

Too many guys playing hurt, little to no depth, hard bad habits still hard to break. etc, etc, etc.

never pile on a player, they are doing their best, i blame the coaches whose job it is to correct the problems the kids have, that's why they get paid the big bucks

I blame the previous coach who recruited him. You can't blame our current staff for not being able to make a bunch of Flood recruits play like superstars.

You also cannot blame the Flood recruits. These kids play football all of their lives and then get offered a scholarship to their state university. No player or parent is going to turn that down because they only have d2 talent.

This is all on Flood and his inability to recruit and coach.

Ash only had him for one year, Flood had him for a lot longer.

I think our fans need to educate themselves on rugby style tackling, the different aspects of it, and when it is used rather than as some punchline. The play in question wouldn't have called for a rugby style tackle. Also, calling out individual kids is not necessary.

I actually thought the move to safety would help his game, I was wrong.

No question about his heart, kid was a hard worker. Good luck to him in the future.

At the risk of pushing this back to the top I will also ask what is the point of this trashing him (or any individual player) at this point in time. Let it go. Just wrong.

And don't be surprised to see him get an invite somewhere and show up. Wouldn't be the first time this has happened.

And lastly, the overall team's inability to improve tackling with all the hype, technique change, S&C work, and former DC as HC is the single biggest reason I have concerns about this coach. Saw NOTHING across the whole backside of this team. ZERO value added executional improvement (edit...in terms of tackling/getting off blocks/angle of attack..maybe I should have said everything except an improvement to defend the deep ball LOL)

Maybe the real question becomes -- Is the next player in the rotation an upgrade or not? Never remove a person unless you know the replacement is better.

And how long should it take for Anthony Cioffi and others to learn to wrap up around the legs?....Anthony's problem is the "macho".... I'm gonna bust him up with a high shoulder hit...when he did make tackles and he did...he wrapped the player up around the knees and ankles....the player that ran him over several years ago was able to do so because he was stronger and bigger....

Thank you A.C. for your years as a Jersey kid who stayed at RU amongst all the turnover, played whatever position he was asked and played 100% ! Not too many kids from Cioffis freshman class still on team that will graduate, most transfered, left football or were kicked off team.

Want to knock a player, knock the players on roster who play the same position but can't beat out the player you're bashing.
If he's the best RU has and doing his best, support his effort and blame the coaches ( past and/or present) for the position being a weakness.

Hester made a lot of great open field tackles and Cioffi caught a lot of players from behind. Both played hurt. Safety play was not our issue. Dumb fans is one of our biggest issues. Need a fan base upgrade.
