This remains to be seen. He doesn't have the quickness, jumping ability, defensive ability or offensive moves to test B1G big men IMO.

If this is not true than why did he play for UNC-Wilm and not in a major conference ? He averaged 3-5 ppg for UNC-Wilm in his 4 years there. How does that translate into a good rotation big man in the B1G ?

Lets be careful about annointing him as a key big man for RU. I'll be happy if he performs well in the OOC season for us.

I'm not annointing him as anything. I just think he will be serviceable in the B1G...as long as he doesn't foul. He's a step up from Greg Lewis IMO. Wilmington had a very good team and didn't need to rely on him. However, they also didn't play the level of competition that we will. Other than Jack, he might be the best inside presence we've had in while, although Jack was a much different player and it's still early. Right now, I like what I see.

5PPG ? Do you know that UNC-Wilmington played an up-tempo offense? That means the Center is not a focal point of the offense. Let me answer....NO.

I asked someone else.....name these athletic and prolific scorers from the Center position in the Big 10?

OK Choppin, lets cut to the chase.

Give us your estimate on Mins played, PPG and RPG for Gettys during the B1G season.

You appear to be his biggest supporter so let us know what we can expect from him this season.

23 minutes per, 5ppg/5.5rpg is my guess. Which is higher than I would have guessed pre season

Jack had a lot of talent but too often he played outside instead of working on the inside.

@Knightmoves Well, I've never made a prediction on any board, for any sport. IMO, It's silly to me because no one has seen enough of any team or opposing players to judge what Gettys may or may not do. I do not think that the college game and the Big 10 in particular has a lot of centers that pose a big scoring threat in the low post. The best two are gone.....AJ Hammons and Diamond Stone.

I think Gettys can move just about any center in the Big 10 off their spot to make low post scoring difficult. He could struggle against pick and roll. On the offensive end, I think his height and width will cause a lot of problems for the 6'9 centers he will face because his girth will allow him to get excellent position to score or draw a foul.....opposing teams may need to double down on him.

B1G teams will need to double down on Gettys near the basket ?

One of us is very wrong about what his performance will be in conference this season. I hope that you are right about him.

Will a 6'9 240 to 250 center be able to deny a 7' 280 pounder low post positioning? We have not even talked about his pick and roll to the basket....in his last presser, Pikiell said that's the next thing that they will start doing with Gettys.

I don't know all the names, so, this could be wrong....but, early season stats show 2, maybe 3 centers scoring in double digits. I would be surprised if more than 5 or 6 centers averaged double digit scoring in the Big 10 this year.

No question that you are sniffing the ether about Gettys. Lets see what he does tonite vs a small DePaul team.

He will be going against a 6'7 center....unless DePaul gets some injured players back. If it becomes an up-tempo game his minutes may be limited.

Not sniffing ether or glue....but, I've seen enough big low post guys pound a smaller guy back to the point where they cannot recover to make a defensive stop. That's the scenario I see.

I just hope the refs let the guys play. Ticky tack fouls could be a problem. The BIG is a physical league. The kids should be allowed to play. We will see tonight how things are called.

Yes. Gettys is big but not very strong or athletic. A center in the B1G with that size will be much more athletic and be able to beat Gettys to spots. I'm very confident that opponents will be stronger pound for pound as well. That's going to be tough to deal with for him.

Many times, even when facing smaller matchups, Gettys doesn't even get his body around and square to basket - he almost tosses it with two hands without even getting his head turned all the way around.

He doesn't have good feet in the post. Like not at all. I doubt the offense will run through him in certain half court sets like it has in the first 2 games.

Now, his body type will automatically provide usefulness in the rotation - that I don't deny. I just think it's wise to temper expectations.

Lots of conclusions being reached after a few games. Time will tell. This line is funny......he almost tosses it with two hands without even getting his head turned all the way around.

COME ON MAN.....So you saw him toss a shot to the basketball with 2 hands.....[jumpingsmile]

Yeah. Toss. As in not an orthodox basketball movement. That's all I was getting at.

Okay....obviously, there are a lot of two handed shots in basketball.....but, the "Toss it" part just sounded really funny. Like he was a little kid who just tossed a ball up towards the basket with no hope that it would even be close to the rim.......lol.

Say what you want about him being big and slow.....But, he is a polished offensive player. Coach Pikiell raves about his offensive game.

Let's familiarize ourselves with some nice moves by CJ.

Interesting. I thought I saw more hops from him (when I first saw this clip) then what he has shown first two games. Looks like he put on (just a) couple of pounds as well in the belly. Wonder if it is because he hasn't felt the need to play bigger or something (yet).
