Cleveland Browns looking to hire Urban???

Link OP? This is common fodder for local radio guys (as was Tressel) but c'mon.

Chatsports seems to be the source. You know, all the big stories they've broken over the years.

Haslam should keep dreaming.

How would this development change our situation?

Coaching college football nearly killed Urban Meyer, and college coaching is a walk in the park compared to being an NFL HC.

While I'll never say never to anything, I think Urban as an NFL coach is probably as close to "never" as you can get.

Cleveland is where football careers go to die, a giant black hole from which almost nobody escapes. Didn't belichick fail there? Even the guys selling hot dogs and beers see their careers go down in flames.

I get why some guys would be thrown out as NFL HC candidates, but Urban Meyer, as good as he is, seems like the last one I'd think of. He just doesn't seem like an NFL scheme fit.

You may want to have your sarcasm meter double-checked.
No sarcasm at all and yes I know he coached in the pros. I don't believe OSU would hire him as a HC. That also applies to Alabama, LSU or USC. Coach Schiano is a good coach but he can't treat college or especially Pro players like children. JMHO

The sarcasm was in the post about Schiano being hired by OSU. Nobody thinks OSU would hire Schiano.

There were annual rumors of Tressel becoming the Brown's head coach too. The Browns are too dumb to hire a good coach so I wouldn't worry about it.

Urban wins because he has the ability to assemble the best talent in the land on one roster, mold them, coach them up to play together and keep them in line for about 5yrs... Before things far apart.

Could be interesting to see if he can do it in the NFL

Last year after he won the NC he said in an interview that the NFL could be something he would consider down the road.

Don't be surprised if he goes to Cleveland.

This is so true. Belichek couldn't even succeed in Cleveland. Enough said!

Is it, though? I feel like as a college football coach you're focused on a lot of other stuff besides football, it's easier to burn out. NFL is win and you're good.

this is true about Cleveland, and Belichick wasn't great with Cleveland but he was fired after Modell took the team to Baltimore so I'm not sure he really failed. His record was 36-44, better winning percentage than any coach since (not saying a whole lot), but who know what could have happened.

The recipe for success at the pro-level has generally included at least one of these three ingredients, regardless of the coach:

1.) A dominant defense with multiple pro-bowlers
2.) A dominant run game with pro-bowl caliber backs & line
3.) A top-5 franchise QB

Superior preparation, schemes, and tactics can make the difference in a game or two, but even Lord Sweatshirt himself (and WITH all the cheating) was unable to win consistently year after year absent at least one of the above.

Chip Kelly is finding this out the hard way.

Of course, what else would he say, but FYI from the Buckeye beat writer for the Columbus Dispatch:

Ohio State's Urban Meyer @OSUCoachMeyer said through school spokesman this a.m. he has no interest in any job other than coaching Buckeyes.
