BU's game plan was to collapse on Omoruyi every time he touched the ball, sending 2-3 guys on him on every touch. He needed to either a) immediately go to the hoop instead of trying begin a post move (he didn't do this), or b) let the defense collapse and kick it to the open man (he tried to do this a bit more, but was getting frustrated). Then our guards just stopped looking for him or sending the ball in at all for long stretches.
In the first half, he took one shot... and it was from the top of the arc.
He also didn't get great position for offensive boards, which would have been good clean-up points outside the normal offensive flow.
BU was also getting very chippy/physical. They shoved him from behind on the one alley-oop attempt, and it was clear they were going to foul instead of giving up post layups. Palmquist was getting battered most of the night, even taking a shot to the throat with no call.
We need guards who can punish teams that double Omoruyi - and Griffiths looks like he can fit that bill in the role Spencer played last year. If Hyatt can be more consistent, that's a second arc option to make defenses pay if they collapse in the paint. I have no idea where Fernandes is, though - he is supposed to be a shooter, but he doesn't shoot. For as much time as he was on the court, he had the emptiest stat sheet I've ever seen at the half.... all zeroes except for one block.
