I'm glad he is our coach and not all of the guys who complain about the QB. I have to find a way to delete a couple of threads because my head is spinning from a lot of crazy comments and not just from 2-3 posters. There are like 20-30 QB "not lovers" in those threads.

To be fair, Ash understands that this team was built around OL and DL recruiting the last 5 years. Not to give Flood too much credit on this board but it is evident that we got bigger and better in the trenches. Our captains are all 5th year guys and all trench players. I was not a trench player but this excites me. Our best year (2006) was a GREAT OL and a very disruptive DL. Rice and Leonard helped along with a veteran secondary. A very talented and deep team for sure. But I do think this team is just as good in the trenches, especially on the DL. Ash wants to bring a toughness and hard work attitude to this program and I see it in every player, including our hard working QB who the team is all in support of. No matter who gets the start each game, I like the attitudes of these kids.

Not all. Definitely not all. But to compete in the BIG we had to get bigger and better in the dirt.

Looking at Ash's recruiting he seems to be supporting that fact.
Great job so far.

I see he has recruited 4 OL and 2 Defensive Linemen at this point.

Rutgers has 20 recruits and is now ranked at #20
.
How many recruits do you predict Rutgers will end up with and how many of those will be OL or DL.

Although Rutgers is now ranked #20 where do you predict Rutgers will be ranked in February.

Well Pitt is now ranked #49 but will be interesting where we end up in February.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

Muller, Nelson, Denman, JPO, Hamilton, and Lambert were all recruited before Flood took over. That's 3/4 of our starting DL and possibly 3/5 of our starting OL.
Yeah but he came in 2005. We started winning and running the ball well in ....2005. But I understand some of you only want to see the bad in him. There was good too, just not enough of it to sustain his job in the BIG. Anyway, this thread was NOT AT ALL about Flood and I did not want to give him too much credit on this board because I know it will turn into another $hit $how thread. But you do know that our best class ever made it clear they wanted Flood when Schiano left, right? Anyway, not about him. It's about Ash and our horses and I am excited.

LOL I love posts like this! Hate to break the news to you but our running game STUNK after Brian and Ray left the program. Here's what we've got:

'05 - 42nd (Leonard and Rice)
'06 - 15th (Leonard and Rice)
'07 - 26th (Rice)

'08 - 80th
'09 - 78th
'10 - 110th
'11 - 112th
'12 - 103rd
'13 - 101st
'14 - 65th
'15 - 65th

Average running game ranking post-Leonard/Rice = 89th

Pretty sure every coach understands this.

Agree that pretty much every coach knows this.....

But it is also blatantly clear that the majority of fans do not understand this and repeatedly place the blame, and heap the praises on the skill position players (and more specifically the QB) depending on how the offense is performing. The reaction of this board to the 2015 season is the proof of this.

How many on this board actually don't watch the QB or the RB on a play and actually focus on the line play...or go back and watch replays of the games and watch how individual players on the line do in their individual battles. I'd bet that not more of a handful do. And one play here or there doesn't cut it. Or how many actually know if there is a missed assignment or block in a wrong zone or player... I would think none of us do... since we don't have the knowledge of the play calls and blocking assignments. So much detailed critique of the QB position but no real objective analysis of what happens up front to allow the skill players to do what they do.

Actually there are plenty here who discuss line play, following games, you just chose to constantly attempt to defend Laviano, hence, you thinking that nobody talked about anything else.

Anyone can discuss it. Doesn't mean people are actually spending time watching it and looking away from where the ball is. It's just the natural thing to watch. Sure don't expect that anyone would give an honest answer to that question anyway if it was asked here.

And I wouldn't say watching a play or two here or there would give you much to make a real evaluation. Most would watch the QB for what 60 or 70 plays a game?? And the line a handful....not much of a sampling of what is really happening... especially since there are 5 or 6 players to watch on the LOS on any given play.

Hate to break the news to you Nuts but I made that point already. I clearly said last time we were good in the trenches was 2006. Of course having Leonard and Rice doesn't hurt. I hope our current group of backs plus the spread open things up. But I am excited about our OL and DL. That is the point of this thread.

Thanks for your contributions. o_O

"Yeah Baby said:

2005"

That's what I quoted and posted about. My response was 100% spot-on. Thank you.

Don't take it personally Slyker. Flood dissed him and huwt is wittle feewings so we see nothing but negatvity from a guy who was totally positive before that night. Hopefully, he will let it go some day. I really hope he can grow up at age 52.

"Flood dissed him"? What on EARTH are you talking about? And I'm not even 50, let alone 52, so stop making shit up please. I've also been as positive as reality allows for, since Ash took over, but unfortunately there is a TON of work to be done, thanks to the previous regime, and I'm not just going to ignore it when discussing the hand that coach Ash was dealt.

Thank you.

Someone had to defend Laviano.... the Rutgers fandom was burning him at the stake. Does anyone really think that Laviano got that much better over the off season that he was able to beat out Rettig? .... or did Ash just come to the same conclusion that the Flood staff did. That he is just better. Maybe fans should be thankful that Flood allowed our 2016 starting QB to get as much experience as possible last year. Imagine the lost opportunity if he only had half as much experience because he caved to fans desires and allowed Rettig to struggle in the same offense? Oh and I can hear it now.... "well maybe if Rettig played more he would have gained more experience too and been able to compete better and win the job" . He may be 4th string this year... .give it a rest. And did Laviano get bigger and better conditioned.. and benefit from the better coaching from the Ash staff? Well maybe. But Guess what ? Rettig also gained weight and was better conditioned and had the opportunity to be coached up by the same new staff. Same as all the other QB's in camp. So tired of reading fans justify why they were right last year in constantly blasting the kid. Just root for the Rutgers QB

I never once "blasted" him, nor have a said a single word about Coach Ash's decision, so I don't care about what others had to say (right or wrong). I'm just pointing something out. Thanks.

When watching the games live (either in Stadium for home games or on TV for away games) I just focus on the ball. But I record pretty much all games and almost always go back and rewatch at which point I will watch a lot of the play off the ball including the lines. Pretty sure I'm not the only one that does this, based on reading lots of posts over the years.

I find that the things that seem obvious when watching live are often far different when re-watching.

Yeah, but as Nuts pointed out, we then stopped running the ball well in 2008 once he became Associate HC (2008- ) and Co-OC (2009-10).

Looking at the "recruited by" name for each of those players (between Rivals and 247), you see:
Phil Galiano (Hamilton, Lambert)
Brian Angelichio (Muller, Denman)
Jeff Hafley (JPO)
PJ Fleck (Nelson)

What did all of those guys have in common? They all left for Tampa Bay with Schiano.

I love this free speak between everyone ... "the more things change the more things stay the same" which goes with " a leopard doesn't change it's spots " ...at least not at Rutgers...Go Chris Laviano have a great year...listen ONLY to the coaches on the Rutgers staff...

How's the band going to be in 2016?...are they giving Professor Timothy Smith a special day for his longtime contributions?
