Everyone has an opinion on the candidates. But if I were part of the search "committee", these are the attributes I would be looking for:
For example:
For Golden - it would be 1, 4 and 5.
For Ash - it would be 3
As you can see, Schiano would actually fit all 5, with 3 being half-half, suspect and debatable, since he has blown leads. But he does know defense and he preps for opponents well. If you pair him up with a great OC, like the Fridge, it would be perfect!
- Proven history with the ability to recruit - a known coach with great recruiting ties to the North East and perhaps, Florida.
- Proven history with the ability to develop players - someone who can take two and three star recruits and turn them into all stars. Players have solid fundamentals and actually get better over time with this type of coach - not regress. Also, they go to the NFL!
- Proven history with the excellent Xs and Os - at least on one side of the ball. Great offensive mind or great defensive mind. Ability to install a game plan and prep for an opponent and at the same time adjust during games. This type of coach rarely blows leads after the half.
- Runs a clean program and emphasizes academics.
- Somebody we can afford!
