Wait, I don't see PSU in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, or Wisconsin. But but but I thought that OSU, MSU, UM, and UW were their rivals. I am so confused.

Being hated in this list is a GOOD thing...it means something about your AD is going well!!!

I wish RU were much higher on the list!!

I feel bad for Iowa State.....it's not like Texas, where there are like 6 different fan bases that would logically hate UT. It's Iowa.....two major programs....

Saw that too. Penn State is the most hated in its own state.

You can't make this stuff up.

So are USC, BYU, Texas, Wisconsin, Florida State, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. It's a product of having other universities within the same state all hating you (hello, Pitt), whereas your own fans hate a variety of schools. In Penn State's case, our fans probably listed a number of teams, from Pitt to Michigan to Ohio State to Notre Dame, etc.

What I find far more interesting is that when Rutgers and Pitt fans get called out for constantly harping on the Sandusky scandal, many reply that it's not just them and college football fans everywhere hate Penn State. According to this study, PSU was cited by less than 2.5% of fans and didn't even crack the top 10 most hated programs.

Seriously? USC has UCLA, Stanford and Cal. BYU has Utah and Utah State. Florida State has Florida and Miami. Wisconsin is the most hated school in Minnesota not Wisconsin. Who does Penn State have to hate them? Pitt and Temple? Really? Compared to the supposed number of Penn State fans? Hey don't let the facts get in the way of your TTFP truther argument.

You're underestimating the level of hate Pitt fans feel for Penn State compared with vice versa. Ultimately, the poster below you got it right anyway: The whole thing is pointless.

You're overestimating the number of Pitt fans. And if the supposed legions of Nit fans hate Pitt, then Pitt should've been most hated in PA not PSU.

Don't delude yourself (I know that's difficult for the Cultie Lion fans).That's because State Penn hasn't won squat for quite some time now.

And neither have South Carolina or Baylor, the Nos. 9 and 10 programs on the list. Regardless, the comments here would have you convinced the entire college football universe despises everything Penn State with all of its being. In fact, that doesn't seem to be the case.

I don't know why Pitt fans don't go to games, but they do exist. Head over to read their crazy forums. Trust me, they have computers to participate in a Hate Map. Probably got all their Yinzer neighbors to click on that one.

And what I'm telling you is that the majority of Penn State fans would not select Pitt as their most hated college football program.

oh right the whole country hates South Carolina and Baylor but State Penn is revered. Got it!

Do you even make sense in your own brain?

Meh, Pitt's crazy forums are dominated by the 29 morons Patrick noted. Keep trying.

Since I'm just killing time until the end of the workweek, let's look at some numbers:

Penn State has 645,000 living alumni.
Pitt and Temple combined have 621,000, according to five minutes of Googling.

When asked for their most hated college football program, those 621,000 Pitt and Temple grads are pretty damn likely to say Penn State. Of the PSU alums, a far fewer percentage would select Pitt. Most would say Ohio State or Michigan, and Notre Dame would be up there as well.

It's pretty easy to see how PSU could receive the most votes in Pennsylvania, especially when you throw in the fact that a decent amount of Rutgers alums/fans live in the eastern portion of the state and assume a lot of neutral observers would choose PSU because of the scandal. Hell, some PSU fans might have picked PSU because they're still sad about Joe for all I know.

This was kind of my thought...see it as a negative that Rutgers isn't on here at all, to me that says RU is irrelevant to our local state...this map is a true testament to how rivalries are built...if a school isn't hated how can anyone be there rival?

I know it's difficult for you to see reality but PSU is one of only four teams in the past decade to win a big ten conference football championship (Michigan state, Wisconsin and Ohio state being the others) in 2005 and 2008. And don't try to say that was a long time ago as everyone on this board constantly quotes the 2006 RU team as the gold standard.

It was a long time ago. As was 2006 btw.

agreed I just don't think many RU fans have the historical knowledge of big ten football to realize that PSU had been a lot more relevant in the big ten in the last decade than most schools...can't just look at the past couple of years or you wouldn't be able to give Michigan any cred either

Maybe it has something to do with Penn State's 645,000 sanctimonious alumni...

Guys let's not get carried away here. If the question were reversed and asked the most loved program in each state I have a feeling that PSU would win big in PA.

PSU = more than 645,000
Pitt = 307,000
Temple = 260,000

645,000 > 567,000

Oh those facts that keep getting in the way. Almost 50,000 more Nits. Keep making excuses for why your program is the most hated in its own state. Or better yet. Just deal with it. People hate Penn State. For plenty of good reasons.
