It was nice seeing her pick up where she left off in the world cup but she has had plenty of commercials lately on TV, print and billboards.

Really? When I think of CaRli I think of some combination of her, a hot tub with floating soccer ball, RU cheerleading uniform and Hope Solo (no jokes pleased).

No expert but it seems to me a portion of credit for the Carli explosion has to go to Jill Ellis for letting Carli be Carli. For years she was in and out of the lineup, battling with coaches because she was being forced to do things in the midfield that weren't her strengths. She isn't the greatest defender or passer but was expected to do those things at world class levels to see the field. Despite this they've needed her and she's responded with more big goals on the biggest stages than probably any other USWNT player.
Now this is her team. She's the captain and leader which I'm guessing suits her ego just fine. She's a goal scorer with one of the strongest legs in women's soccer. Just her having the ball from 30 yards away makes a defense scramble giving others opportunities. Last night a good NZ team crowded the middle I'm thinking because of Carli's abilities.

IIRC, she was benched late in her RU career despite being one of the top players in the country. From everything you read about her she does appear to be the kind of person who'd hold a big time grudge.
She appears to have issues with ever coach she's had. Why would RU be any different?
