The New Brunswick Performing Arts Center is scheduled to open later this year. The two theaters will be used by the Rutgers Mason Gross School of The Arts and other cultural organizations. One theater will hold 465 seats and the other will have 253 seats. In addition, two rehearsal spaces will replicate the stages of each theater. 207 apartments will be built over the theaters.---http://nbpac.org/about-nbpac/live-feed/

So, wait, they built a 23 story building in order to have a performing arts center? With 18 stories of residential units?

Welcome to Jersey, Spanky. Hell, we even built a parking garage to have an athletics facility...

i literally laughed and shook my head at the level of truth this holds.

Seems like every single development project in NJ now requires to be multi-purposed as mandated by the local and state politicians.

Not saying its the worst thing in the world. Comes with benefits, but it also makes projects REALLY difficult, expensively, and timely to execute on.

It's mostly the only way to afford building something like a performing arts center. No one is getting any sort of ROI on a new arts center in NB without being able to tack on more space, and the city sure as hell isn't building it all by itself.

$1900 for a studio in that building.

$1900 for a studio. In New Brunswick.

I hope they get it because it helps the local businesses but idk why someone would pay that. That's more than Manhattan (yes I know it's not a luxury studio in Manhattan).

Is it? I'm renting out the garden level of my row house 400sqft apartment in Jersey City (Hamilton Park) for $1750/month and it's below market.
