Cuse Loses a Heartbreaker to Cornell

Excellent.
Cornell had beaten them in the regular season and then are forced to play at Sadexcuse and they still won. Kudos to them and _ck the NCAA Lacrosse committee. Oh, and three of those "great" ACC schools out of four are out in the first round.

I checked the past three seasons and they have used the power ratings EVERY YEAR. Last year UNC was the last at large in because the formula said so. UNC then proceeded to lose to Albany in the first round. If they had gone against the power ratings this year they would have had some explaining to do. By sticking to the formula they maintain the appearance of fairness whether or not they picked the best at-large teams or not. OSU was playing as well as anyone down the stretch (including a win vs RU and a win vs Maryland) but having them leapfrog several teams in the power ranking based on being “hot” isn’t something the committee is willing to do.
So youre claiming they use the power ranking with a certain cutoff? An acc team gets hot late and they wouldnt let them jump over a Bigten team? When has a marginal Acc team not made the tourny?

Yes...last team in was Villanova this year....last year UNC.

In 2016 last team in was Hopkins....a team RU had beaten twice that year but RU fell just behind JHU in the power ratings.

So why have a selection commitee then? Let the computers decide.

Game over. No different than hockey when a delayed cross-checking penalty is being called. There are penalties in hockey that can result in a penalty shot when in the last 2 minutes (e.g.delay of game-knocking the net loose to stop play).
Thank you @Knight Owl and @bigmatt718 Do they have the penalty shot option at the end of lacrosse too? What would stop the defense from bear hugging the guy they're covering (as in most of the players not just one) at the end, if it's just going to be a delayed penalty that might or might not end up materializing? (other than maybe the sportsmanship aspect)

No shootouts, thank God. Just sudden death OT until someone wins.

No penalty shot. And that's the first time I've seen that happen in the over 40 years I've played/watched the sport. If there had been a little more time the Syracuse player could have fired a shot wide of the goal and gotten play stopped.

Edited to add: For years play stopped after a flag was thrown once the ball touched the ground, even if the team on offense retained possession. I believe that changed at some point in the 90's.
