Daily Targum

The idea that the Targum has to win school-by-school, rather than by majority vote of all students, seems odd to me. Can anyone explain this?

No results have been released from the voting...so not official yet, hope it isnt true...if anyone knows if alumni could do anything to donate to keep it going, please let us know!

Maybe Obama can straighten the mess out when he arrives.. lol

We can't go a single thread without a swipe at this generation, can we?

Ignore the fact that the Targum was independent since before anyone who's currently an undergrad was born. This is clearly the doing of Gen Me!

But it was the Targum leaders and staff that pushed for independence from Rutgers. They can't have it both ways.
Forgive my ignorance on the topic, because it's been a long time since I stepped foot in their offices, but haven't they been independent since 1980?

What does your response have to do with the current students being the one who voted not to fund it?

If true, it would be very sad if the Targum was through. Among other things, it is an important outlet where aspiring journalists get to hone their skills. Very sad indeed.

The fact that voting is done school by school, and that the Targum will no longer cover those schools that voted "no" is bizarre to me...
To survive they have to cut back coverage, why not cut back coverage on the places that don't want the Targum.
I'm sure if a student from those RU schools (that voted no) send an article in , the Targum staff would add them to the news they print and put online.

Gosh, I hope not. Major part of the experience in my day. Plenty of lefty kooks spouting off, but chalked up to naïve youth before being mugged by reality.

Targum was great for me. I was that guy who dropped off the bundle of papers 2 to 3 days each week throughout campus. Was the perfect job. Got up about 4:30, drove to Princeton to pick up the papers, drop around campus and back in bed by 8:00.

The Targum doesn't publish news articles that people "send in"; do you mean "Letters to the Editor?"

More of guest columnist type article , because I'm sure with the funds they'll have to run the Targum changes will have to be made to get enough content to make it worth publishing

It works in the other direction. Targum writers aren't paid, but the printer is. They'll have plenty of content, but fewer pages in which to publish it.

Is it a left-wing lib rag or a middle of the road college news publication?
It is a right wing Rag that spouts the virtue of no new taxes and how it is our freedom to rob the public of tax money to pay for non-needed products and services that line the pockets of the rich, at the expense of the poor downtrodden working class. Other then that it was a good paper.
