It would be great for a major CC turnout and to give coach a resounding welcome!!! Let him know we appreciate all he has done with this team.

10-1 fellas! Talked to Coach this evening post game, he can't wait to get up there and roll with it tomorrow night!

Not too late to join online NOW at www.rutgerscourtclub.com, or at the door tomorrow!

Don't miss it!

Its freezing and blustery today but we need to show toughness just like our team and attend tonight's meeting and throw our support behind SP.

Would love to get a recap??

Pikiell was spectacular. Spoke and took questions for over an hour. Talked very honestly about toughness, improving, and individual player questions.

Other notes I can recall off the top of my head:
- Loves Geo Baker's ability to shoot the ball, will contribute immediately
- Deshawn Freeman has some personal issues with ill family members
- Won't discuss big picture stuff, says his goal is the next game and the only post-season he thinks about is the NCAA tournament
- Talked honestly about recruiting, issues recovering from our problems
- He really felt our guys didn't want to get in the gym last year, that they were basically lazy and that was because of a lack of need to compete for minutes "Last year if you were breathing, you were playing"
- Recruiting really hard, lots of people on the road, including him
- Jay Young is incredible
- he wants players who want to play for Rutgers
- Matt Bullock will probably redshirt

He just seems to preach treating kids with respect, but being stern. He expects a lot of them, doesn't really yell, but will be tough when necessary. Spoke about players (mentioned Corey) who sometimes don't listen until they sit on the bench and he was totally fine with that.

Certainly much more, but you couldn't walk out of there without feeling good about him and this program.

Jerry Carino had kind words for Pikiell. Thinks we're losing to Seton Hall by double digits, doesn't think Sima (SJU transfer) would be a good fit here based on some info he received and does think we're in the mix for Reid.

Wow. Wasn't it posted on here that he already played this year? Guess it's going to be a medical RS then?

He has played in I think two games very sparingly. I don't know anything about the rules regarding it but Pikiell absolutely said he would "probably redshirt". No other info really. Somebody asked him if Bullock was OK with that and Pikiell basically said it was his (Pikiell's) call.

Pretty clear where this was going after CCSU - was either a redshirt or a transfer

They will find a way to redshirt him if that's where its going

Pikiell was a amazing speaking for well over a hour and seemed to relish the opportunity to speak to Court Club members. His candid remarks about the state of the basketball program regarding recruiting and individual players performance was informative and led to follow up questions from fans.

Carino was supportive of Pikiell and Rutgers 10-1 start to the season but also realistic enough to admit winning B1G games will be difficult and to achieve 4 league wins would be a very good accomplishment this season.Carino had comments similar to many fans where recruiting higher caliber players will be Pikiell's biggest challenge but rumors he has heard so far were very positive.

Coach was awesome! He was so generous with his time that I started to feel bad about it....like we should let him go home and get some sleep. They have practice this morning and then all the coaches are boarding planes to go recruit.

Great sense of humor and seems stern but caring and not a screamer like Calhoun. Hobbs should be very proud of his pick.

Thanks for the update, XKI.

Pikiell is a great guy and probably giddy about the 10-1 start so I'm sure he was happy so spend some time with the Court Club.

Perhaps there was also a tad of sympathy for Court Club members who supposedly had to anti-up $100 this year in order to save the Court Club. Unthinkable in my day as Associate Membership Chair but I guess you have to do what you have to do. If true give BKIN1118 credit for doing so.

The $100 is well worth it. We have at least 4 meetings a year with food at every event. Also does anyone notice how hard Brian, Janet and the other officers work. Brian gets numerous prizes for every meeting as well as the Court Club auction. I cannot image how many hours these people put in besides working full time jobs.

wow what an engaging 90 min session by the coach..he wasn't introduced just walked in and started shaking everybody's hand and it was like he was talking to a group of friends in his living room. I left there last night thinking "we got our coach"!! We will have continuity going forward and we will get better, maybe even much better!! The coach has a blueprint for success.

The major thing is that the Court Club was saved (you'd think some funds could have .been at least loaned from the athletic budget) as the Court Club sports the team. Difficult to imagine Rutgers Basketball without the Court Club.

Glad some can afford. Many Americans such as myself can't. Think just read that 60% of all Americans don't $1000 set aside for a rainy day (or some worse statistic).

I didn't make the Club meeting last night, but wish all our fans have a chance to talk and meet Coach and the entire staff.....they "get it".....from communication, realistic expectations, understanding the landscape and details needed to get the program moving forward....Far and away the clear face of Rutgers athletics right now and it's not even close.....

I'd gladly lose to SHU by 25 if we can get Reid! ;)

He mentioned a kid in California specifically whom Karl Hobbs has a relationship with. No idea who it is.
Coach indicated very difficult recruiting NJ/NY kids in that you have to go through so many people, a multitude of family members, coaches, etc so he's finding the recruiting trip in Cal. being more streamlined. However, Jerry Carino did hear in the basketball circles that RU may be in the lead for Naz Reid (wants to stay local) and that Matt Bullock is his best friend. Assuming Bullock red shirts, it would only be (1) yr apart for these guys. We can only hope!!!!

Rutgers did assist us with some costs last season, but by and large we've been pretty successful...

Recent changes to accounting rules and licensing of merchandise cut into our ability to raise money for the program, and at 50 per person we were literally losing money on those who attended meetings. While it's nice to think that money doesn't matter...times have changed considerably. The Club won't survive merely being just big fans of the program without tangibly contributing to the goals at hand.

There is an urgency to do more for the program now, and truthfully we feel like the value and experience we provide our membership has been consistently superior in quality... certainly of more value than dues point of the past FIVE seasons.

I regret that dues increases may have excluded some on principle or financially, but I promise you it was unavoidable.

If you came last night...you'd understand why we put our heart and souls into it...and why the continued success of the Club is essential to Rutgers Basketball.

Thanks for the info. My buddies told me about the price increase but I was not informed it was due to accounting rules and licensing-I thought it was solely a dropoff in membership. At $100 per I know it wasn't easy as I was Associate Membership Chair for a few years back ~1991-1993 under Bob Wenzel. Was tough to convince people to join back then for $25 though I estimated I helped increase CC membership about 8%. Definitely correlated to a large extent with winning.

As I have served the CC didn't have to be there to know how good a person and coach Pikiell is-or the love of the fans for the program. Under Wenzel we had a class guy who was an alum who loved the school and program (except then that he was caught outside the Big East and had trouble recruiting). I loved Bob's smikle and that (for the most part) he was type B and always wore his Rutgers sweats wherever (lately I've said WTF and am wearing my sweats out).

Having served (admittedly to a small extent) I'm also well aware of the great efforts put in by the Court Club staff. Usually a few wind up putting in the bulk of the work. Luckily for me when I served I "made peace" (there were never any discussions or arguments) with my Membership Chair who really didn't want to take memberships but was more of a liason with the AD and coach (was already a big donor and became a top donor/"Person of influence). He and others were the ones to put together the banquet.

I'm also well aware (though it's perhaps a bit easier as President though I realize you were Membership Chair) that some "executives" can be a bit of a pain. When I served we had a few who thought they were AD and above all because they donated big. However my "favorite" was a women on the executive committee who would always wear Dook sweatshirts to the RU Executive Committee Meetings. Less bad years later was our CC President who rooted in opposing sweatshirt for the other team as he had undergraded at that school (one of the biggest Lady Knights wins ever). There's got to be a place in heaven for most of us Rutgers fans...Thanks for all of your hard work!
