While watching the end of the first half of the Indiana game, Indiana brought the ball up to just over half court and waited for the clock to run down. RU layed back and waited for them to make the next move.
This got me wondering. In general (not specifically RU) at the end of the first half with less than a shot clock to play, the offensive team will always hold/dribble the ball till less than 10 seconds in order to get the last shot and the D will wait for them. Why do defenses not press/attack the ball handler early in that possession? Best case is that you get a turnover and worst case is that you speed the other team up and get the ball back if they score quickly.
Thoughts?
