legit...we have 7 guys that could start on anywhere from 5-14 other big ten teams ...plus Paul Mulchay who would play on most of teams rotations

Talent and depth

Pike obviously had a plan coming in to get length, athleticism and depth. We literally have nine guys that get minutes and with that, a fresh rotation against teams with six-seven guys at most. Add length like we have coming in next year and hoping someone like Palmquist can have a great outside inside game then we will be that much tougher. Our future is very bright.

Of course getting Cliff O. here, would really put us over the top.

If Cliff comes, we would seriously be a title contender. The one way to beat us now is get Myles in foul trouble, or flat out shoot amazingly. If there’s a second option there, you would have to shoot it extremely well to win.

Amazing.

I fear that Myles will get some bad calls a lot of the away games.... the fouls probably cost us the Illinois game

The first 10 minutes of the Iowa game, he should not take too many chances out there...... we all know that he had a problem
With moving picks..... just want him to get deep in the game and be able to play

And on-floor combinations that still cause me to cringe are now working well together giving Pike a lot of mix ‘n match options.

Well, some of Myles' foul trouble at Illinois was all on him with the dumb reach, for one. Hopefully he learned not to do that again.

Depth is a strength this year. For example, I can't see Minnesota winning the B1G tournament when they play Oturu and Carr 38+ minutes a night. No way they could do that three or four nights in a row.

I agree MH in foul trouble has been and remains an achilles heel for the team but I am a little more optimistic about this after the last games. I think he is being very coached up on the moving screen thing. If you watch the Minn game, you can see at least twice where he recognized that the guard was starting to move before he was set and he pulled himself out of the pick and avoided a call. There was still contact so college refs, being what they are, could still call a foul on the road but I think he is improving.

As has been stated on the board 100 times, it really is a timing play with the guards. Getting the timing right improves with practice and time together.

Was foul #2 in the Minnesota game really a phantom foul call on Myles? If so the officials (which I hate bashing) almost totally turned the game around. I was sh!ting a brick watching Shaq and Duke trying to guard Oturu.

To the OP....I don't want to get caught up in to who would start and who is better. Our depth allows us to thin out the minutes. It gives coaches different lineup options. it allows us to play the "hot hands". It forces players to play the right way, there are not default minutes.

So many times posters have looked at other teams having players play 38 minutes and rejected the theory that our players need rest. So far there are very few college teams that play as hard as we do.

For one foul, Johnson was being boxed out from a rebound and made contact with the defender from behind as he went up to get it (I think it was Oturu guarding him). The thing the ref didn't see was that the defender had reached around behind Johnson's back with his left arm and had clamped Johnson's body against his back, holding him down from jumping and ensuring there would be body to body contact. Was a missed call - ref should have called it on the defender, but instead called it on Johnson.

For another foul, the defender set a screen and clearly threw his shoulder into Mulcahy's jaw, which rattled him and a whistle was blown. As the screen was being set, Johnson had a hand on the screener's back and was extending his arm. It looks like he might have given a small push, but didn't look in any way to have been hard enough to shove the defender into Mulcahy like that. Johnson got called for the push, and MN got away with a head shot on Mulcahy with no foul.

correct...the screen foul was BS, Myles was barely touching him, and no way in hell did he push him to cause Mulcahy getting blown up like he did.

was that foul #2?

I thought one he was no where near the play. I am guessing he was and your 2nd foul described was his 2nd foul and it wasnt completely phantom.

We need better shooters to be a title contender - both from 3 and at the line.

Our only lack of depth is at the center position. there's a huge fall off when Carter or Decoure come in for Myles both offensively and defensively. Oturu is the most recent example. He scored most of his points when Myles was on the bench.

Our biggest team weakness in FT shooting. Need to see that number improve substantially for RU to make some noise in the Big 10 Tournament.

I have been very impressed with Carter's play this year. Not suggesting he is (or ever will be) a starting center but his fill in minutes have been much better than I expected. IIRC, Oturu was held in check by MJ and Carter in the first half but then Carter didn't play in the 2nd. He scored on Doucoure and MJ to get his points.

Okay, just went back to check. He had three fouls in the 2nd half:
19:46 - This was the one where Oturu had his armed wrapped around Johnson's back as Johnson got the offensive board. Definitely a missed call, and showed on replay on the screen. Should have been called on Oturu there, which would have been his first. Instead, it was Johnson's first.
13:41 - This was the one where Johnson got called for the push. Looking at it again, Johnson had been keeping a hand on Oturu's lower back prior to the play, and did extend as Oturu was setting the screen. Maybe a questionable call, sure, but not phantom.
11:05 - Clear foul. Ball was saved back inbounds to a cutter in the lane, and Johnson contested and drew a lot of contact. That resulted in 2 FTs

If Cliff Omoruyi was going to come to Rutgers ( and I’d love to have him) what reason would he have to wait much longer ? He has been here countless times over several years... he has seen the new facility... he has seen and heard the raucous Rutgers fans chanting his name...he knows the team is young and winning... It appears he enjoys the staff , the team and coach Pikiell... handlers or others control is still an issue ... he also doesn’t need to be the savior anymore just a key cog in the wheel.

I think a lot of that is dependent on the opponent. I thought Carter played pretty good the last 3 games before the Minnesota game. Oturu was definitely excited to see Carter and then when he got a possession of Duke.......

Thanks....so it was definitely not a phantom foul. It didnt appear from my seat he was near play AND Myles gave an incredulous look so I assumed, incorrectly, there defintely wasnt a foul on Myles.
